History
In the 41st Millennium
The role of the Salamander Scout is to observe enemy deployments without being seen and is usually seen at the forefront of an attack. It is armed sufficiently to be able to deal with infantry and light vehicles, with both a Heavy Bolter and Autocannon. Though it is no match for a tank, it is fast and capable of leaving any dangerous situation quickly.
Often the engines of Salamanders are overcharged in order to give an even higher speed, which is a breach of regulations, although this does put a lot more strain on the drive shaft and other parts of the engine. The modification is habitually overlooked due to the dangers of their role.
Salamanders usually work in pairs for mutual protection. This normally takes the form of one vehicle following and supporting and swapping over at predefined points. When on the offensive, Salamander Scouts are at the forefront of action; on the defensive, they are often deployed to guard strategic sites or ammo and supply dumps. They are commonly mixed in with Armoured Fist Squads when there are insufficient Salamander Scouts, allowing more infantry to be deployed on the front lines more quickly than otherwise possible. Each Salamander is deployed with powerful communications equipment to allow it to report back detailed information on enemy deployments. Direct links back to the major command centres of an attack are not unusual.
