Sapiencia is an Ocean World of the Imperium located in the Sabbat Worlds Cluster.[1]

History

After the Imperial forces of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade succeeded in defeating Chaos forces at Balhaut, small groups were able to slip through the Imperial Navy lines and attack unguarded worlds such as Sapiencia. The attack was led by Magister Sholen Skara and his Chaos Cult known as the Kith. Imperial forces under the command of General Kline initiated a massive troop landing on the beaches of Oskray Island in the hopes of taking the island's main refinery hive.[1]

The troop landing did not proceed as planned; due to the fire from the island's defenders and the spray coming off the ocean, a number of troop-ships missed their target and dropped their cargo in the Bay of Belano. A number of Guardsmen drowned but, worse, a number of the Basilisk artillery pieces that were supposed to break open the island's sea walls were rendered inoperable by the drop into seawater. The initial advance faltered, unable to breach the defences while the defenders slaughtered them.[1]

The change came when, by chance or intentionally, one of the Imperial troop-ships brought down by the defenders' guns crashed through the wall, creating a breach. Even then, however, the hole was too small to advance heavy armour through and the Kith soon redeployed to cover the breach. Once again the Imperial advance faltered but, now that a section of the wall was gone and its defenders had moved to cover the interior of the breach, the remaining Imperial artillery could muster and attempt to widen the breach. However, a detachment of the Tanith First and Only regiment had made it to the wall. Trooper Domor's augmetic eyes noticed a tunnel running through the inside of the wall that had been exposed by the breach. When Trooper Caffran suggested that a unit of the Tanith could use the tunnel to get inside the hive. Sergeant Gorley rounded up a fire-team to climb the wreckage and enter the tunnel, although Gorley himself was too slow to make it inside and was caught in the friendly artillery fire and obliterated.[1]

Nevertheless the remaining members of the fire-team were inside. After encountering a number of Kith soldiers, the Tanith inadvertently caused one of the refinery towers to collapse. This tricked Sholen Skara into thinking that the Imperials had managed to get a large army operational within his base and he led his followers in a series of mass suicides. After a short time, so many of his men had killed themselves that the remaining Guard were able to take the hive. Skara himself was captured and due to be executed, with Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt of the Tanith First offering the honours to Caffran. Caffran, however, realised that, for a man like Skara who fetishized death, taking him alive would be akin to unbearable torture and so refused to shoot him. Gaunt agreed and Skara was led off to be imprisoned instead.[1]

Imperial Order of Battle

In addition to the Tanith First and Only and the Ketzok 17th Serpents, a number of Volpone and Abberloy regiments were present on Sapiencia.[1]
