Scout Bike

A Scout Bike Squadron is a rapid strike version of the Scout, making up the support for the 10th company of the Codex Astartes.1
The squadron is made up of a Sergeant and between two and four Scouts on Bikes. The bike has a built in twin-linked Bolter and all of the Scouts have Frag Grenades and may also take Krak Grenades and Melta Bombs. They all wear lighter Carapace Armour but are excellent at scouting out forces a long distance away, which would take too long for normal foot-mounted Scouts to investigate.1
Several chapters which don't use the Codex Astartes have different methods of dealing with scouts. In the Space Wolves the Scouts are known as Wolf Scouts and are used in a highly aggressive, undercover way to sabotage enemy positions and infiltrate behind enemy lines.2 The Black Templars don't have a company for the scouts themselves, instead each is attached to a Initiate while they train. Subsequently it is possible that there are no Scouts on bikes in Black Templars armies.3
The Crimson Fists suffered a terrible catastrophe which saw much of the chapter destroyed; subsequently there are only a few new scouts to take the places of those who died.4 The Salamanders are known to have a very slow and meticulous selection process and subsequently the seventh company is made up of only six squads of scouts.5
