The '''Tyrant Guard''' (species name: ''Tyranicus scutatus'') are is a special species of [[Tyranid]] spawned in small broods for the sole purpose of defending the a [[Hive Tyrant]] from focused harm. Though on occasion, a [[Carnifex]] may also benefit from the Tyrant Guard's protection <sup>1</sup>. Their entire instincts are directed towards defending their master and putting themselves into the path of incoming fire, heedless of any personal injury.
Over the centuriesThey are living shields - tough, only dimly aware of pain, the enemies and all but impervious to small-arms fire. Protecting them are iron-hard exo-skeletons covered by interlocking layers of the Tyranids have learned chitinous plates.
