Maleceptors are a highly psychic species of Tyranid.1
Overview
The Maleceptor is a living vessel for the purest embodimentof the Hive Mind’s psychic power. As it advancesinto battle, with psychic energy spearing spearsfrom its cranium to vaporize any who cross and vaporizing all inits path. Those Bullets and energybolts fired at the Maleceptor are consumedby a formidable psychic barrier, or deflectharmlessly from its thickly armouredhide. Ethereal pseudopodsreach forth from the creature’s glisteningbrain-array and the merest brush from one ofthese psychic tendrils overloads the victim’sconsciousness with a fraction of the HiveMind’s unimaginable energies, causing their heads to explode.2 Maleceptors are the response of the HiveMind to some of the more psychicallygifted races that populate the galaxy. Embeddedin the beast’s torso are glistening orbs ofencephalic tissue, from which protrudetwisting coils of shadowy energy. Thesetendrils are manifestations of the Tyranids’nullifying psychic presence – the in the Warps – and to touch one is tocome into contact with the horrifyingimmensity of that psychic phenomenon. For nearly every living creature, this spellsa spectacularly violent end.2 It is fortunate that Maleceptors are suchcomplex and valuable organisms thatthe Hive Mind rarely deploys morethan a few such creatures. A single Maleceptor is capable ofobliterating the minds strong enough of several enemypsykers and gathered in sufficient numbersthey possess the power to tear entire citiesto survive its psychic screams the ground. To enhance their alreadyprodigious abilities, Maleceptors are laid low oftenaccompanied into battle by its powerful drifting hostsof Zoanthropes and Scything TalonNeurothropess. Even in defense these creatures are potent foes, for its sixfold mind-Theresultant neural nodes generate a psychic barrier that consumes not only bolsterthe resilience and ferocity of the bullets swarmssurrounding them, but also focus and energy blasts sent against it. However these brain-arrays fulfill another more sinister role. The ethereal pseudopods that snake from direct the Maleceptor's lobes are best described as baleful effects of the Shadow in the Warp made manifest, unleashing roiling tides ofpsychic force. Should one 2 Maleceptors are completely blind, andnavigate via a combination of these ectoplasmic tendrils so much as brush against an enemyextrasensorypsychic perception, and byutilizing their powerful synaptic link tothe Hive Mind to sense the subtle psychic immensity impulses of nearby Tyranids. Thus, whilethey lack the individualism and wealthof combat experience that a Hive Mind will invade Tyrantpossesses, they are still able to react toemerging threats with startling speed. Tothese creatures the victim's brainchaos of a battlefield isa phenomenally complex neural network, and they are able to instantly translate thismaddening web of information, overloading it redirectingand redeploying lesser beasts in a fractionof a second. When faced with heavy resistance, such the hive fleets have deployedMaleceptors with notable success. Thethick armour plating of those mighty warengines, so effective at repelling the massedattacks of a force as causing Tyranid swarm, is renderedalmost useless in the unfortunate subjects head to explodeface of a Maleceptor’spsychic assault.12 ==Images==
