Some unknown changed the Chapter Strength to 2,000. Changed it back to "unknown" because I haven't found anywhere an exact number of marines in the Black Templars. The Codex Black Templars also does not give an exact number. It only says the High Marshal is the only one who knows their number... (This is also reason for the inquisition to keep tabs on the Templars ... (GW even came up with a mission for BT against Inq. based on this... check the site).

Anyway... as there is no definitive number given anywhere, I'd say stick with "unknown" -- JoeneB, 25 June 2006, 13:24 (CEST)

As I stated previously... where does the number of space marines in the Black Templars Chapter come from? All sources I know state that the exact number is unknown... so how do you know the number of marines lies between 5000 and 8000? Again I refer to the codex which states only the High Marshal knows the exact number and the GW website which has a mission for the Black Templars against the Inquisition based on this. The mission discription only mentions the Black Templars, and I quote, "may rival the size of the Space Marine legions of old" (see: Versus the Inquisition mission), with the emphasis on "MAY"... so it could be as few as 2000-5000 or as many as 10,000... -- JoeneB, 21 January 2006, 12:19 (CET)
Then you can put >1000 marines or more than a thousand in order to explain there are a lot of them --McLuenda 12:26, 21 January 2007 (CET)
In german texts, the strength is known to be far over 1000, and speculated to be 5000-8000. --Pack_master 12:28, 21 January 2007 (CET)
There you have it, speculated... As there is no definitive number stated by GW it think it's better to use McLuenda's option and state it as an unknown number, estimated lager than 1,000 (as GW does in it's own codex etc.) as it is my opinion to avoid speculations as much as possible. -- JoeneB, 21 January 2006, 16:09 (CET)

speculation of chapter strength

This page lists the number of Black Templars as between 5000 to 8000. However it also states that there are several thousand fighting companies. This would mean that with an average of 50 marines in a company and at least 2000 companies there would be 100000 black templars. So there is an obvious discrepancy here in the total number of black templars. It is likely that they number at least several tens of thousands.
