Imperial Navy?

We have a discussion of organization of the naval branch of the IA, but does anyone have a source that this was actually called the 'Imperial Navy'? Phunting 02:45, 10 March 2012 (CET)

The listed source, IG codex 3.2, just calls it the 'fleet', so unless anyone has anything else, I'll change it to that. Phunting 02:51, 10 March 2012 (CET)
The organisation in the "current" 41st millenium is certainly called the Navy, but I dont recall that term ever being used in the HH books to describe the forces at the time of the Great Crusade. The Lemur 02:55, 10 March 2012 (CET)
I notice this now calls the fleet section 'Imperial Armada', but has no source for that name. The new Imperial Armada article lists 'The Horus Heresy Book Four - Conquest - The Conquests of the Coronid Deeps' but this is an entire section of the book, not a page ref. A quick scan through sees the 'Imperialis Armada' mentioned on p23, but this is a) a slightly different name and b) not made clear if this is the term for the entire fleet or some other formation within it. I've not trawled through to see if it is mentioned again. Also, reading Deathfire at present which has a shipmaster who is 'born into the Navy' (note capital 'n') at the start of Chapter 20. Portal Icon?

Some editors have been attaching the Imperial Guard portal to Imperial Army articles, which is not strictly accurate. Is there any icon or image that could be used to create a separate portal for the Imperial Army?--Proteus77 22:16, 13 March 2012 (CET)

At least from the top of my head I can't recall a specific symbol. Hardly surprising considering there is almost no coverage of teh subject outside the HH novels so far. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 23:40, 13 March 2012 (CET)
We cant really have seperate 31st millenium portals, - if you think the Imp Guard one is incorrect - what about replacing it with the "Imperium" one? The Lemur 05:36, 15 March 2012 (CET)
Or a Portal "Pre-Heresy Imperium" for example? --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 09:40, 15 March 2012 (CET)
Seems... Redundant... I think the general Imperium one works...--Ashendant 12:26, 15 March 2012 (CET)
I don't think so: The Imperium pretty much turned itself upside-down after the Horus Heresy: Inquisition, Ecclesiarchy and Imperial Navy were founded. Imperial Army and Space Marines Legions were reorganized into smaller units. The Mechanicum was closer bonded to the Imperium by giving them a seat in the Council of Terra. And not to forget the twist from militant atheism to religous extremism. Kaspar Hawser's department (forgot name) stopped researching the failures of Old Night, the Sisters of Silence aren't mentioned Post-Heresy...
AND: There are vehicles and units that existed in the Imperial Army, but no longer exist in the Imperial Guard, e.g. the Testudo APC and whatnot. --DetlefK 17:00, 15 March 2012 (CET)

What i meant is creating a entire portal for pre-heresy imperium is redundant, using the same portal, a entity changes but it's still the same entity.--Ashendant 19:57, 15 March 2012 (CET)

I agree with Ash. If we had a M.31 Imperium portal would we then have a M.31 Ultramarines one, for example? The changes in the Imperial organisations post-heresy are (or should be) covered in their respective articles. For the Imperial Army pages I'd suggest one of the following -

  • Stick with Imp Guard Portal - not technically correct, but close.
  • Use Imperium Portal.
  • Create a general M31 Portal and use this.
  • Create an Impeial Army portal box in the style of the ones used for the main SM chapters (eg. Ultramarines portal box links to the SM portal and the Ultramarines page). So this would have links to Imperium (or Imp Guard) Portal and the Imperial Army page. Not sure what image we would use for the icon. The Lemur 02:35, 16 March 2012 (CET)
Personally I think the IG portal should remain for IA articles, but Massacre has an IA symbol in it, which I've added. So there is now a symbol if people still want to create a separate portal. It could probably do with having the background blanked out first however. Phunting 01:39, 2 February 2014 (CET)
