Talk:Known Members of the Salamanders

From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Jump to: navigation, search

I've cleaned up the page by adding a set structure to the presentation of names. In addition I've rearranged the catagories into alphabetical order (Yes, the previous editor of the page had them mixed up!). The structure is set as follows (Including placing of hyphens, commas, brackets and spaces):

Name - Occupation, (Millenia in which active) - Fate of character.[citation]

All names need to be put in alphabetical order within their individual catagories (Eg.Lazarus before Lok). Also, I've renamed any Terminators as 'Firedrakes' to link it specifically to the Salamanders theme, however in the case of Sternguard or Vanguard Veterans I've kept the same to aid the readers identification of role.

Why is N'Bel included on this page? I know he adopted Vulkan, but does that really make him recognizable as a member of the Salamanders?

I've included N'Bel simply because he is revered by the Salamanders themselves. Technically, you are right in that he is not a Salamander himself, but simply by virtue of his importance to the Chapter I have included him. That said, should other editors such as yourself feel that it is too far off the mark, then by all means please rectify said entry. Adranus 11:29, 15 August 2013 (CEST)

Further Citation Conventions

In my renovation of this list, I have been forced to implement some citation conventions in order to maintain a cohesive and accurate list. Namely, these are:

1. The characters have been cited in chronological order depending on when they first appear in the events surrounding the novels. This takes into account the short stories and novellas as well. For example, although Dak'ir features most prominently during the novel 'Salamander' which was published first, however he is first introduced in the short story 'Hell Night', the events of which occur before 'Salamander' - hence he is cited from a chronological 'in-universe' perspective. However there are slight exceptions. For example, Chaplain Elysius is passingly referred to in 'Fires of War', set before the events of 'Salamander', however as he is not physically present within the short story he is cited as first appearing in 'Salamander' as it is here that his character is actually present and developed.

2. For cases where a character is introduced in one story, but later dies in another, following the period of activity (e.g 'M41') a citation is given for their first appearance. Following the tag 'Deceased' is the citation for their death. To avoid confusion this is used sparingly - for characters being introduced and dying in the same book only one citation for their introduction is given.

3. One final point to be made is on the issue of promotion. Characters who in previous chronological events have had lower (or higher) stations, such as N'keln being introduced as a Sergeant in 'Fires of War', are cited with their latest incarnation. In this case N'keln is listed as being 'Captain of the 3rd Company' and his citation is given as being in 'Salamander'. The same applies for others. for example, Emek is listed in his position of Apothecary in the later events of 'Salamander' not simply Battle-Brother as he was in 'Hell Night' and early events of 'Salamander' prior to his promotion - hence, his citation is given as the epilogue of 'Salamander' as it is here that he is seen is his latest incarnation. Similarly, as Emek later features in the events of 'Nocturne' as an Apothecary, his citation remains as 'Salamander' due to that being his promotion to the position. His death, in accordance with the 2nd point, has it's own citation.

Hopefully this will not prove to difficult or confusing to follow and will enable readers to determine who each character is. I would hope that further editors would seek clarification by reading this first, before changing citations as, with care, it is a system that supports the information concisely.
