The second sphere expansion took place before the Damocles Gulf Crusade, did it not? In 745.M41? The Nimbosa incident was simply the most prominent battle to occur since then if I recall correctly, and Brightsword's death on Es'tau was a Tau scheme to justify a Third Sphere Expansion.
