Talk:Space Marine Veteran Sergeant

Is a veteran sergeant a veteran space marine who is also a sergeant, or a sergeant space marine who is also a veteran? Point being, veterans are usually in the 1st company and as such a veteran sergeant would be the equivalent of a sergeant but for the 1st company.

Is that the case, or are they sergeants in other companies who also hold veteran status? The article is very unclear and I'd be happy to rewrite it once this is clarified. As far as I'm aware, sergeants in non-1st companies have no special entitlement to wear terminator armour and technically aren't veterans in the technical sense. • Some Space Marine Veterans take the rank of Veteran-Sergeants and lead squads of marines. They belong to the same company as the squad they're in, just like veterans in command squads, serving as Captain's retinue. Leaders of Veteran Squads are also called Veteran-Sergeants, no difference here. Naturally, they also belong to the same company as their squads, in this case this is the 1st, Veteran, company. Terminator Armour is usually only issued to squads of Veterans and Chapter heroes, but there are exceptions. You should also keep in mind that all these rules are absolutely true only in Codex Chapters. Does this answer your question? --Rolz
      • I'm a Space Wolf player atm, but even I realised this article was too vague. My understanding was that veterans were 1st Company only and a veteran sergeant led squads of veteran marines. You could get the impression from this article that they were also highly experienced sergeants from other companies. I'd change it, but it's not really my thing. • Don't look at me, I've got plenty of Ork stuff to do at the moment. --Rolz
