Tannen's World is a Civilized World of the Imperium.[1]
Tannen's World was nearly brought to ruin when a Genestealer Cult launched an attack upon its government, located in the city of Kassalis. The Cult had remained hidden and grown powerful beneath the city for sometime, and the Imperium's forces located there were caught off guard by the sudden attack. After three months of fierce fighting, the Cult had taken over the city and only the walled compound of the Adeptus Arbites' Precinct Tertius was left as the only symbol of the Imperium's rule on the planet. Soon enough, however, the Genestealer Cult began a massed assault that breached the Precinct's walls and Genestealers emerged to attack the surviving Arbites. They were no match for the large number of Genestealers attacking the Precinct and soon only the Arbites led by Marshal Volker remained alive inside the heavily fortified Hall of Judgement. Within the Hall, Volker readied the few Arbites left under his command to face the Cult, but was caught by surprise when the Cult's Patriarch easily ripped apart the Hall's doors as it led a pack of Genestealers to kill the only remaining threats to the Cult.[1]
Though they fought heroically, Volker was soon struck down by the Patriarch and his Arbites were torn apart by the Genestealers. The attack left Volker heavily wounded, but he was still defiant as the Patriarch loomed over him. He told the Xeno that their deaths would be avenged by their fellow Arbites, who were even now racing to Tannen's World to destroy the Cult, and triggered an explosive device in his hand, as the Patriarch swung down with its massive claws to kill him. The resulting explosion completely destroyed the Precinct and killed the Patriarch and the Genestealer Cult's forces that attacked it. Three days after the explosion, Tannen's World was retaken by an Adeptus Arbites relief force under the command of Marshal Byzantane; he noted that it was only the death of the Patriarch, thanks to Volker and his Arbites' sacrifice, that allowed them to retake the planet so quickly. Byzantane later gave the order to destroy Kassalis from orbit, as it was too corrupted, with the hidden breeding nests of the Genestealer Cult, to be saved.[1]
