The Battle of Tavalar was the first battle fought during the Imperial Crusade (592-602 M41) to cleanse the three worlds of the Faseene System of a Hrud infestation.[1]

When the Imperial Guard's Sixtieth Army landed upon Tavalar, the world's infrastructure had been decayed by the Hrud and its population was enslaved; just like the other worlds in the system. Due to this environment, the Imperial Guard's attempts to clear the ruins with infantry Regiments was unsuccessful. Meanwhile the Hrud, would emerge from their warrens and conduct highly effective hit-and-run attacks on the Guard, which focused on destroying its ammunition and fuel stockpiles. The preternatural speed of the Xenos defeated the Guard's attempts at pursuit, until a Regiment of the Kashann Xeno Riders was finally deployed. Using feral hunting techniques used on their Homeworld Kashann, the bulk of the Rough Rider Regiment closely pursued the Hrud; while detached squadrons raced forward on the flanks to herd the Xenos together and finally encircled them. Using this tactic, the Xenos' raids were swiftly contained and allowed the Sixtieth Army's infantry to concentrate on launching set-piece assaults on the Hrud's warrens, which cleansed the world of the Xenos.[1]
