The Host was a name given to a Daemon Prince of Nurgle, first encountered on the Imperial world of 47 Kapella.[1]

History

The Host originated as an average Imperial Guardsman stationed at Camp 109 on Kapella, which was in the midst of a bloody civil war the Guard was seeking to quell. Nurgle saw an opportunity to spread his "gifts" and unleashed an agonizing plague across Camp 109. Sick and tormented, the soldiers of camp 109 despaired and pleaded with any that would listen for salvation. "Papa Nurgle" listened to their cries, injecting the infected Guardsmen with vitality but transforming them into grotesque creatures of putrid flesh. As the contagion spread, those touched by Nurgle began preaching to accept the illness and follow them to glory. These beings, calling themselves The Scourge, began to assault Ecclesiarchy and Orders Hospitaller field hospitals across Camp 109. They spread the disease, and many of the infected were soon transformed into vile Plaguebearers.[1]

Salvation arrived from Camp 109 in the form of the Ordo Malleus. Inquisitor Lystug and his retinue scoured camp 109 after a heavy orbital bombardment. The Inquisiton and Sisters Hospitallers launched a joint assault on the camp, where they encountered not only Plague Zombies and Plaguebearers but also the being at the heart of the infected camps foul operations, The Host. Situated at the center of the camp, The Host was a being of bloated fly-ridden corpses held together through puss and dark powers. The Host, the very first wounded Imperial Guardsmen to beseech Nurgle to aid, had become a Daemon Prince as a reward for his despair and promise to wage destruction in his name. Inquisitor Lystug and the Sororitas crippled the creature through prayer and healing chemicals. Inquisitor Lystug then stepped into the circle of purity created by the Sisters and delivered a single crushing psychic blow that struck down The Host and cast the Daemon back into the Warp.[1]
