Alpharius with The Pale Spear[5]

Sarrisanata[3] or The Pale Spear was one of a number of strange and esoteric weapons associated with the Primarch Alpharius. It can be broken down into many pieces, symbolically representing the philosophy of the Alpha Legion.[1b]

Rumoured to be a strange Xenos artefact, whose forging predated even the rise of the Eldar, the double-bladed spear seemingly flickered out of phase with the material universe and emitted an eerie and otherworldly howl, when wielded. It was capable of piercing and ripping apart any physical defense it encountered; while against living matter, The Pale Spear inflicted hideously bloodless gaping wounds on its targets, as the flesh where it struck dissolved into oily smoke.[2]

History

According to an account given by Alpharius which is said to be a lie, the Pale Spear was discovered by Omegon on the nameless empty world he found himself on after the scattering of the Primarchs.[3]

Alpharius wielded the spear when he confronted Rogal Dorn at the Hydra Moon Fortress around Pluto[1a] after having rebuilt the spear during his rampage through the Solar System.[1b] In battle, Alpharius killed Dorn's Huscarls and was able to stab Dorn multiple times. When one blow stabbed into Dorn's chest, Dorn grabbed the spear and cut Alpharius's hands off with his massive chainsword Storm's Teeth before stabbing Alpharius with his own spear then executing him with a slice of his chainsword to Alpharius's head. There is no mention what happened to the spear following the battle.[1a]

In early M42 the Spear was moved to an Ordo Malleus vault in the Psyphos Sub-Sector by command of Inquisitor Kayzen Hart, in order to lure Harrowmaster Solomon Akurra into an ambush[4a]. While Solomon was able to retrieve the blades of the Spear[4b] and use them to rest back control of the conglomerated Alpha Legion Chaos Warbands of the Ultima Segmentum, the original haft remains in Inquisitor Hart's hands. It is unknown if the Spear's power is reduced when wielded incomplete, though the blades were still able to pierce Gravis Armour, and leave its uniquely bloodless wounds and oily smoke.[4c]
