Imperial Guard Medals

Hello Jonru, I see you're an admin of Lexicanum (great site btw). I'm new to this but get the drift. I did some articles based on known Imperial Guard Medals. I've already put a copyright (GW one) on the images belonging to GW and source they were from when I uploaded them so didn't bother to use citations on the small articles since they were uneeded. I would appreciate if you could check them out and tell me what you think. I only uploaded images for the first two articles in the list, and besides the first 3 articles, the rest is the work of myself.

Thanks. --Rabs 4:47am GMT 23/07/09

Constantin Valdor, fell handed

Hello, I came across the following on the Constantin Valdor page: "Valdor sliced Bjorn's arm off to prevent the corruption from overrunning his body. This is presumably where Bjorn became known as 'the fell handed'."

What was your presumption there? he gained the name of fell-handed due to his arm being chopped off? I'm asking because that scenario seems a bit laughable to me.

Thanks. --Acidface 07:04, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't believe that's right. Bjorn was known as the Fell-handed before that story (about his arm being corrupted and cut off) was thought up. I think it's obvious enough to presume that the name comes from the fact he has a giant lightning claw (with an integrated flamer) for a hand. "Fell" meaning deadly, dangerous, etc. --Acidface 13:18, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I happen to be chinese, so I checked out the few characters that were shown when I checked the deletion log. I thought at first that he was a Warhammer 40k fan from China who was really trying to contribute by inserting new Warhammer related articles in his own tongue...turns out he WAS inserting gibberish indeed.

1:中国吉林龙兴机械制造爆米花机,棉花糖机,珍珠奶茶,炒货机,烤地瓜机,土豆粉机,筋饼机,米线机,蛋仔机,手机加香

Translated by Google (My command of the Chinese Literature is abysmal):

1: China's Jilin Machinery Manufacturing Longxing popcorn, cotton candy, pearl milk tea, roasted seeds and nuts, baked sweet potato, potato flour, cake bars, Rice Vermicelli, eggs Tsai, phone Flavoring

Well, what a disappointment. I actually started to edit your talkpage here hoping to defend him, but when I saw he was indeed inserting gibberish, I could only tell you this, since the editor was open anyway. Sorry --Tonicquill 15:06, 15 December 2008 (CET)

New add-on for editting?

Erm, as another measure, why don't you add a requirement to "type the numbers in an image" to make it even harder for the spammers, or stop him altogether if it is an automated program? --Tonicquill 11:22, 19 December 2008 (CET)

I have asked RelicWiki for help on preventing malicious edits, they suggested Behaviour Plug-in which works with mediawiki. Please take a look. --Tonicquill 04:10, 20 December 2008 (CET)

Access to White Dwarf information

Hi, for my research/project on games workshop miniatures history, I need access to all white dwarf magazines. I own already a lot of them, but not all. I'm interested to know if you have some, thanks. --Talad 23:04, 3 January 2009 (CET)

Hi! I see you are back, has been a long time. I would like to regain contact with you about the White Dwarfs for my project. I'm in messenger right now, or you can write on my page here.--Talad 10:13, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Before scanning any, be sure to check with me, I bought a number of WD from ebay, so we should be sure the ones you make are not present already. I will stay on MSN messenger in case you want to have a chat. --Talad 10:52, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

New templates

Hi, I've created a White Dwarf template, which can be used to document all white dwarf magazines consistently. Let me know if you like it, and I will convert some of the existing ones to this format. Also please add it to the Template pages so others can see it. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Template:WhiteDwarf

In addition I've also created a miniature template: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Template:Miniature that I would like to use in all miniature pages like: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Mekboyz_miniatures

If I get your OK, I will move forward in converting the current pages and adding more info/pictures. --Talad 17:39, 5 January 2009 (CET)

How do I contact you? Do you have an MSN account or email account I can contact you at? Will be a lot easier to discuss live. --Talad 00:17, 6 January 2009 (CET)

Featured Article

I nominate Ciaphas Cain (Novel Series) as a featured article for the Lexicanum. I feel this page in particular outranks any other page in the Novels category. --Vindicta 08:02, 8 January 2009 (CET)

While speaking of books, do you think we can reserve a section for getting lexicanum's users comments and reviews on the books? Will be very nice for me to read what the people have to say about one book, and give a rating from let's say 1 to 5. What you think? --Talad 12:30, 8 January 2009 (CET)

basod1(at)gmail.com many thanks!

O'Shaserra

The new layout of the pics looks fine, I was toying with the idea of hunting down some slightly better resolution ones of the models, but I'm happy with the way the article is looking. :) Duffs101 11:29, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Chaos Vehicles

What is the general consensus for Chaos vehicles having their own separate articles from the Imperial counterparts? I’ve noticed there is one for the Chaos Predator, but that has been requested to be moved to the main article.

If I could put in more information could they warrant their own articles or should I just put them as a sub category on the main entry? Duffs101 11:55, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I'll collate the info I have and do a small sub-section on each of the articles when I get chance. All redirects go to the relevant articles anyway. Duffs101 15:28, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Armour of Antilochus picture.

in question would be the latest model version of Calgar (the old 3rd edition one now counts as Calgar without it on). If you have no problems, I'll copy and paste the picture info of Calgar wearing it (with his Honor Guard) from his page onto the Armour of Antilochus article --Whitefang 02:20, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Deep linking

GW don't allow direct links to their pdf's, so we should link only to the normal html-pages.--Genestealer, Magus 17:35, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Article Deletion

Why was the jagathai khan article been deleted-Ivan The God emperor

Vraksian Renegade Militia

Can you help me out on that page? I'm kinda confused when it comes the Chaos warbands that joined the fight. It says that the Skulltakers is a fraction of the World Eaters, yet, on the Skulltakers own page, it says that they were once a Space marine chapter, with their own history. Thanks!

Ok, np, I just thought I would say it. I made a slight change, since I was able to confirm on the Sanctified's own page, that they were a fraction of the Word Bearers, not World Eaters. But I'll leave the Skulltakers issue to someone else :) I'll remember to sign my posts, It's been a while since I've been active on a wiki. Last time was on a Guild wars wiki, but that's an entirely different subject ^^ Jahora 15:32, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Mass-editing now possible

Finally I'm able to run a bot to automate the edits, but the new cat naming system makes little sense to me, for instance Category:Weapons (Ammunition) makes much less sense than just Category:Ammunition.

What convinced you to abuse brackets in the category names? Isn't that a much less readable format? "Weapons (Imperium)" is far less colloquial than "Imperial Weaponry".--Madness 06:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't see how finding weapon categories is an issue. Even if it was, the colloquiality of the category names shouldn't be sacrificed.
A Kroot weapon category puzzles me. I really can't make the sense of it. Tau weapons are weapons used in the Tau Empire, but Kroot weapons? Maybe Weapons in use in the Kroot society, but then again, Kroot use Pulse Rifles as well after all, we could define them as "Weapons invented by Kroots" but then again classify Incinerator as "Imperium Weapon" is fairly reductive, I have the feeling we want to identify weapons by the people wielding them, not by the people creating them. Now, it's entirely possible for us to identify Kroot as a separate entity, but I feel that we better consider them as a part of the Tau Empire.
Let me try to sum it up:
  • Weapons created by --- : sucks because weapon inventor and weapon user might not be the same person, and I'd rather mention the user instead
  • Weapons used by --- subsociety : sucks because sub-societies would have to share a lot of the weapons, leading such weapons to be part of too many categories, which is unelegant, also the tree becomes overly complex.
Example of the messy tree:

Weapons by faction
|
+--Tau Weapons
   |
   +--Kroot Weapons

Tau empire
|
+--Kroot
| |
| +--Kroot Weapons
|
+--Tau Weapons
   |
   +--Kroot Weapons

See? Messy.
  • Weapons used by --- (separate) society : sucks because you lose the bond between society and sub-society.
Example of the separated tree:

Weapons by faction
|
+--Tau Weapons
|
+--Kroot Weapons

Tau empire
|
+--Tau Weapons

Kroot
|
+--Kroot Weapons
  • Weapons used by --- (parent) society : sucks because you lose the sub-society identity. On the Other hand nothing stops you from classifying Kroot hunting rifle as both Tau Weapon, Projectile weapon AND Kroot.
Example of the simple tree:

Weapons by faction
|
+--Tau Weapons (includes kroot ones)

Tau empire
|
+--Tau Weapons
|
+--Kroot (all the articles about Kroot society, creatures, weapons, technology...)
I like the fourth option, that is why I removed the Kroot Weapons category, let me know what you think about it, we can even start a forum thread/poll if necessary. --Madness 12:13, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
The Tau Empire is a faction, it's an alliance of races, just like the Imperium includes abhumans, Chaos includes mixed races, and whatnot. Basically I propose to count the flags. People who unite under similar purposes, constitute a single faction. This allows me to have an Eldar category with Exodites, Harlequins and Corsairs as subcategories, altough they are separate societies.
I do like the idea of Weapons by faction, I just think that the factions shouldn't be races. --Madness 13:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Pretty much. I didn't check if the list was complete, but you got the idea right. The imperium category is bound to be messy, but there's not much you can do about it... --Madness 14:08, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Hehehe

image category fixes using AWB

Enjoy. ;) --Madness 12:21, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

P.S.: we should create bot users to use with AWB, so it's easier to hide the edits in the recent changes page. --Madness 12:23, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Created MadBot, now I need someone to put it inside the bot group. --Madness 13:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Fanfiction

Hello Administrator Jonru,

My username is Sir Nicholas, and I'm a fan of warhammer stories, and I happened to read on the front page that fanfiction was tolerable here but on the user page. I would greatly appreciate it if an Administrator would confirm that it would be alright if I were to write fanfiction in my user page.

I hope that this wasn't a waste of time, but I didn't want to break any rules, so I figured that if anyone where to know, it would be a contributor as experienced as you.

On a more personal note, I'm a huge fan of Rogal Dorn and his Chapter, the Imperial Fists!

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, Sir Nicholas.

You are only allowed to use your user page for your own stuff if you are regular and useful contributor to the Lexicanum project (~100+ useful contributions). Regard it as "Give and take", we do not allow the use of our webspace if we do not get something in return ;) --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 09:21, 14 August 2009 (UTC) (Bureaucrat, Administrator)

that gretchin inquisitor S

is it just me, or is that guy sooo pedantic about his citations; I try and bulk up the Ibram gaunt page, and all I get is my work deleted etc because I was trying to do the typing first and the citations later.

I know he's a Sys Op, but please could you try to get him to lighten up!

flamingbuttmonkey22

Not that

But the fact that i am being asked for citations for my own userpage is kind of dick thing to send :D And how do i even citate my personal info, ask for my mothers signature?

Please tell me that i understood you wrong :D

-KotznaZ

You did. The citations rule only applies for regular Lexicanum content, what you do on your user page is not subject to this rule. You got that message, because most newcomers don't know how to cite. In addition you should actually address the people who wrote that message, makes more sense... --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 11:28, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

New Eisenhorn books

Hello. Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but Dan Abnett has said that he will be making a 'Bequin' trilogy (or as he calls it, Ravenor vs Eisenhorn). I wanted to edit the Inquisitors page to show this, however I'm not sure how I'd be able to give it citations. He announced it via a video on youtube, which would be kinda inappropriate for a citation.I can send you a link to the vid if you want. Thanks for any advice you can offer --Karimabuseer 22:57, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Jena Orechiel

Hi, I noticed your Inquisitor Articles page, and saw Lady Jena Orechiel on the list. The current article seems pretty good, but the source is completely out (it just says Inquisitor Rulebook): I was hoping you could let me know which publications she's found in so I can fix the source & improve the article.

Cheers
