The Vassal 40k Module is for the card-, board- and miniatures simulation software- VASSAL.

Vassal is a game engine for building and playing online adaptations of board games and card games. It allows users to play in real time over a live Internet connection. It runs on all platforms, and is free for personal use.

This module enables online play, meaning you can play people from around the world, using the tabletop rules.

The 40k Module makes it possible to play 40k games in real-time through the Internet with a simulated table and unit graphics.

Version History

The module was originally designed for second edition and was first created by xhrit.com. Later RimCiv further developed the modules and adapted it to the new version of Vassal and third edition. Due to a lack of time Caluin took over the module. It was then taken over by DarkScipio. The module is currently run by Tim Davis (Dezartfox) The latest version is 5.1 and is designed for the 5th edition.

  • Added terrain selection using Shift-Click. (Ctrl-Shift-Click would not work for me for some reason)
  • Added turn tracker. Tracks turn number, player side and phase. Left in the ‘end of phase’ buttons just in case the turn tracker is not liked.

  • Added configurable map sizes. You can now select any number of 24” x 24” sections you want and each one can be a separate colour if desired (selection of 5 colours)
  • Added 2 more map windows so people can organize their armies away from the map. Kind of on the honour system if the other person is not supposed to see it until deployment
  • Added image capture to table map window (snapshot of the current map, nice for battle reports)
