The Valhallan Ice Warriors are the Imperial Guard regiments of the ice world of Valhalla. Valhallan soldiers are famous for their tenaciousness in holding their ground against even the most hopeless odds, and their ability to suffer the most appalling casualties without breaking.
Organization
Battle style
Through combating Orks in the defence of their homeworld, the Valhallans have become adept at fighting Orks, and are often deployed to fight wars where this talent can be put to use. The Ice Warriors are stoic and unwavering when on the defensive, resolutely holding their ground against fearful odds where other troops would consider it a good idea to flee. Enemies have often found that Valhallan defending forces need to be completely destroyed to capture the held ground. Valhallans are trained to fight in dense formations to support their morale. When on the offensive, Valhallans combine massed artillery barrages and infantry wave assaults. The morale of regiments is often backed up by attached Ministorum Priests.
Equipment
All Valhallans are equipped with standard-issue lasguns and flak armour but certain Guardsmen are armed with special or heavy weapons. Their uniforms are made for colder climates, including heavy coats.
The Valhallans favour flamers and mortars.

| 222nd | The Valhallan 222nd were formed during the Ork invasion of Valhalla and were instrumental in the defence of the world5-p6. | ||

The Valhallan 296th and 301st both fought with the Reclaimers and the Swords of the Emperor against the Tyranids at Corania and later went on to merge to form the Valhallan 597th Ice Warriors2. | ||
| 319th | The Valhallan 319th Ice Warriors were part of the Imperial force that responded to the invasion of Cressida by Chaos forces. They formed the rearguard when the planet was evacuated prior to being virus bombed.8 | ||

| 1212th 'Cold Bloods' | The Valhallan 1212th Cold Bloods were raised for service in the Eastlight Nebula Wars, but their first battle was among their last. With their supply and logistics lines overstreched, only one in every three Guardsmen in the 1212th were issued a Lasgun. Their first mission saw a forced-march across the frozen and toxic wastelands of Triox against a traitor force. Despite their survival skills, only half the Ice Warriors made it across the plains to assault the traitors' flank. Many of the Guardsmen recovered weapons on the fallen and in the end decisively defeated the enemy forces.7 |

| 8th | The Valhallan 8th are known to include Leman Russ Demolishers and have fought on Sallan's World3-p19. They also include a Leman Russ Executioner which fought in the Advance on Sallan's Point.3-p63 It also includes a Destroyer Tank Hunter which was put on sentry duty defending a fuel or ammunition dump3-p69. |

| 28th | The 28th are honoured among the tank armies, being allowed to carry a red eagle symbol. It includes at least one Leman Russ Vanquisher which is the second vehicle of the first squadron of the first company. It is also known as N-company.3-p35 It also includes a Leman Russ Exterminator as the third tank, fourth squadron, fourth company. Known to have taken part in the Retreat to the Auriga Parallel on the Ice World Adhara.3-p50 Also, a Leman Russ Conqueror is present and has subtle camouflaging unlike the other tanks in its company or squadron.3-p56 The Valhallan 1st Heavy Tank Company is attached to them.3-p95 |

| 193rd | The Valhallan 193rd includes a Stygies VIII pattern Leman Russ Vanquisher and took part in the Defence of Canaan's World. One was the first tank of the first squadron of the third company.3-p37 |

Notable Valhallan Ice Warriors
- Commander Kubrik Chenkov - Valhallan officer
- Commissar Ciaphas Cain - although he wasn't born on Valhalla, Cain spent the majority of his early career serving with the Valhallans
- Gunner Ferik Jurgen - Commissar Cain's loyal aide and bodyguard; originally assigned to the Valhallan 12th Field Artillery, later accompanied Cain for the remainder of his career, including his assignment to the 597th and his retirement to Perlia;
- Colonel Regina Kasteen - Commanding officer of the 597th;
- General Jenit Sulla - Served with Commissar Cain with the 597th, later was promoted to general
Background
The Valhallans are based on the historical Red Army of the former Soviet Union.
