A Veteran Sergeant is a rank similar to a Sergeant used by the Space Marines. Veteran Sergeants are, on the whole, Sergeants who have been in battle on more than several occasions, thus having gained sufficient experience to be given the special title. No other faction besides the ones listed use this rank.
For a Space Marine to be inducted into the first (veteran) company, they usually serve time as Veteran Sergeant beforehand, though some are inducted immediately due to extreme acts of valour.
