War of Broken Faith

The War of Broken Faith began when the Necron forces of Anrakyr the Traveller, attacked the defensive space fleet and orbital fortresses of the powerful Shrine World Saintspyre, in late M41. Anrakyr sought vengeance for the destruction of a Necron tomb complex on the Shrine World, which had been plundered by Saintspyre's early colonists, and sought to destroy Shrine World for its slight against the Necron. While using his Tomb Ships as a shield against Saintspyre's space fleet, Anrakyr led a boarding attack on the orbital fortress, Blade Imperium and turned its weapons upon the Shrine World. The resulting bombardment cracked the Shrine World's crust and breached its core, which condemned Saintspyre to a slow and fiery death. With his vengeance now slated, Anrakyr and his forces departed and once word of Saintspyre's destruction spread, the morale throughout its System began to collapse. This began a chain reaction that eventually swept an entire Segmentum with panic and the population of the Imperium grew even more fearful for any future Necron attacks. For if even Saintspyre, a world thought to have been protected by the Emperor himself, cannot hold this foe at bay, what chance does Mankind stand?[1]
