A warp rift is an area where real space and warp space intersect. They tend to be far fewer in number than warp storms and are much more permanent than some warp storms. The greatest warp rift is the Eye of Terror which allows entry to the warp without needing to use warp engines.

One incident involving a Venenum Temple assassin named Urhua Thereaux had the transport ship trapped in a warp rift for 698 years. The linear idea of time breaks down within the warp meaning that years in real space can seem like seconds in the warp.

Also, smaller warp storms tend to congregate around the rifts, creating hazardous areas for travelers. There are only two routes out of the Eye of Terror, one via the Cadian Gate and the other towards the galactic east. It is often from these that the forces of Chaos attack the Imperium.
