__NOTOC__

The [[Imperium]] has developed its own method of recording dates, which needs a bit of explanation. Most importantly, the years are "Anno Domini", so the dates themselves are the ones that we are familiar with now. A typical date as Imperial scholars write it would look something like '''0123456.M41'''. Let's divide this code up to explain each part:

{|border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em; background:#4F4F4F;text-align:center;"
![[#check|Check]]
![[#yearfrac|Year Fraction]]
![[#year|Year]]
![[#mill|Millennium]]
|}

===Check Number===
The check number refers to the accuracy in the date, with 0 being the most accurate and 9 being the least. Class 0 or 1 refers to events that occurred in the [[Sol]] system, with each increasing number being a further degree of separation from [[Terra]].

===Year Fraction===
For record-keeping, each year is divided into 1000 equal parts, numbered 001-000. Note that this is not generally used by Imperial citizens, but is simply for administrative use.

===Year===
This is the year within the millennium, running from 001-000. For general dates, often only the year and millennium (below) are included.

===Millennium===
This is the millennium in which the event occurred. Most "recent" events in the Warhammer 40K universe occur in M41, or the 41st millennium. An event in the present (as of 2005) would have occurred in M3.

The Space Marines are superhuman warriors, genetically engineered to be better in every way than a normal human, equipped with the finest weapons the [[Imperium]] can provide and with an unfaltering loyalty to the [[Emperor]]. The Space Marines are divided into Chapters, each Chapter has its own unique heraldy and traditions. Most Chapters follow the [[Codex Astartes]] however not all do, notable exceptions are the [[Blood Angels]], [[Space Wolves]] and [[Dark Angels]].

==Creating a Space Marine==

The creation of a Space Marine requires two things, a young (pre teen) healthy recruit and a sample of the Chapter's [[gene-seed]]. Because a Chapter's [[gene-seed]] blongs to that Chapter alone different Chapters display different characteristics and implants. However listed below is the most common transition from human to superhuman (using the [[Ultramarines]] [[gene-seed]].

'''Phase 1 - Secondary Heart'''- This implant allows a Space Marine to survive his other heart being damaged or detroyed, and to survive in low oxygen enviroments

'''Phase 2 - Ossmodula''' - This organ alters the way the Space Marine's bones grow and develop. Two years after this implant is first put in the subjects long bones will have increassed in size (along with most other bones) and the fusing of the rib cage into a solid mass of bone.

'''Phase 3 - Biscopea''' - Inserted into the chest cavity this organ stimulates muscle growth.

'''Phase 4 - Haemastamen''' - Implanted into the main circulatory system this implant increases the haemoglobin content of the subjects blood, making it more efficient at carrying oxygen around the body and making the subject's blood a bright red.

'''Phase 5 - Larraman's Organ''' - This implant causes the subjects blood to form a kind of scar tissue on contact with air, cauterising any wounds the Space Marine may suffer.

'''Phase 6 - Catalepsean Node''' - Implanted into the brain this implant allows a Space Marine to rest parts of his brain whilst awake, this means that a Space Marine needs no more than 4 hours of sleep a day, and can go for 2 weeks without any sleep at all.

'''Phase 7 - Preomnor''' - This is essentially an extra stomach that can digest (more accurately process) otherwise poisonous or indegestible foods.

'''Phase 8 - Omophagea''' - This implant allows a Space Marine to 'learn by eating', by consuming the flesh of an animal the Space Marine can gain some of the creatures memories.

'''Phase 9 - Multi-lung''' - This additional lung allows a Space Marine to breathe in low-oxygen or poisoned atmospheres, and even water.

'''Phase 10 - Occulobe''' - This implant allows the Apocthecaries to adjust the sensitivity of the eye, the net result being that Space Marines have superior vision.

'''Phase 11 - Lyman's Ear''' - Not only does this implant make a Space Marine immune from dizzyness or motion sickness but also allows Space Marines to filter out and enhance certain sounds.

'''Phase 12 - Sus-an Membrane''' - With sufficient training a Space Marine can use this implant to enter a state of suspended animation, keeping the Marine alive for years, even if he has suffered mortal wounds.

'''Phase 13 - Melanochrome''' - This implant allows a Space Marine to control the amount of melanin in his skin, exposure sunlight will result in the Marine's skin changing the melanin levels to the appropriate levels, changing the Marine's skin colour.

'''Phase 14 - Oolitic Kidney''' - In conjunction with the secondary heart this implant allows a Space Marine to filter his blood very quickly, rendering him immune to most poisons.

'''Phase 15 - Neuroglottis''' - This enhances a Space Marine's sense of taste to such a high degree that he can identify many common chemicals by taste alone.

'''Phase 16 - Mucranoid''' - This implant allows a Space Marine to sweat a substance that coats the skin and offers resistance to extreme cold. This can only be activated by outside treatment, and is common when Space Marines are expected to be fighting in vacuum

'''Phase 17 - Betcher's Gland''' - This allows a Space Marine to spit poisonous acid.

'''Phase 18 - Progenoids''' - There are two of these glands, which take time to mature into [[gene-seed]]. The [[gene-seed]] can then be extracted and used to create more Space Marines.

'''Phase 19 - Black Carapace''' - This is a kind of inner skin that allows a Space Marine to interface directly with his [[power armour]] and use all of the additional features on the armour, such as medical information.

==Daily Rituals of a Space Marine==

'''0400 - Morning Prayer''' - Led by the Company [[Chaplain]] the Space Marines renew their oaths to [[The Emperor]], This time is also used to give out orders, announcements and other administrative tasks.
*'''0500 - Morning Firing Rites''' - The Space Marines engage in target practice with their personal and squad weaponry.
*'''0700 - Battle Practice''' - Generally this is close quaters orientated, however live fire or hazerdous enviroment training may be done instead (or as well).
*'''1200 - Midday Prayer''' - In addition to prayer any injured Space Marines can report to the [[Apothecary]].
*'''1300 - Midday Meal''' - Normally local wildlife killed during the moring activities.
*'''1315 - Tactical Indoctination''' - This can take many forms, from information on a new alien species or technology to strategy. A debrief of the morning's battle is common as well.
*'''1500 - Battle Practice''' - This focuses more on combined tactics than the morning session and may include a trial of a new tactic introduced during the tactical indoctrination.
*'''2000 - Evening Prayer''' - In addition to prayer [[gene-seed]] testing may occur at this point.
*'''2100 - Evening Meal''' - A feast (by normal human standards) is provided by the Chapter serfs, some [[Chapter Master]]s may allow alcohol to be consumed.
*'''2130 - Night Firing Exercises''' - If there is no 'night' where the Space Marines currently are other training is udertaken, for instance zero-gravity combat.
*'''2315 - Maintenance Rituals''' - Each Space Marine is expected to maintain his own [[power armour]] and weapons, and it is often checked by the Chapter's [[Techmarine]]s
*'''2345 - Free Time''' - Space Marines are permitted this time to reflect upon their duty to [[The Emperor]], however many [[Chapter Master]]s regard free time as a frivalous waste.
*'''0000 - Rest Period''' - Space Marines are allocated 4 hours in which to sleep.

How many Tyranic wars has there been? I have heard something about 3 and i believe also that the first encounter is also being referred to as the first tyranic war

I'm not sure how many Tyrannic Wars there have been, but there are at least two: the First was the Battle for Macragge, and the Second was Ichar IV (in 997.M41). Apparently, during that time, Espandor (in Ultramar) was destroyed, so I'll have to change that in the Ultramar article. If there is a third Tyrannic War, I'm not sure what it would be (maybe the war in ''Warriors of Ultramar''?) --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 23:46, 23 Jun 2005 (CEST)
AvengingDentisthttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Warhammer_40k_-_Lexicanum_talk:List_of_Categories&diff=366Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum talk:List of Categories2005-06-23T21:37:48Z
AvengingDentist:

The German GW page ''does'' talk about the "Adept'''us''' Sororitas", but US site universally refers to them as the Adept'''a''' Sororitas (admittedly, the UK site calls them Adeptus once, but they also use Adepta and Adeptas, so I'm going to ignore them until they pick a single name). --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 22:28, 23 Jun 2005 (CEST)
It is plural feminine and the Adepta Sororitas are feminine.
Aarrrgh, who introduced the word "categoryn"...

"Adepta" is actually feminine ''singular'', since the organization is entirely female (I took Latin in high school). As for the "Categoryn", that was probably me. When I was translating the category tree, I did a find-and-replace, and I guess I must have done it to the whole document.
The Tyranids are an alien race from another galaxy whose sole purpose seems to be the consumption of bio-mass. They are divided into [[Hive Fleet]]s that operate independently from one another. Each Hive Fleet has a "hive mind", controlled by the [[Norn Queen]], who generally resides in one of the Tyranid ships. The Norn Queen oversees all tactical operations and determines the path of evolution for the Tyranid species in that Hive Fleet.

==History==
First contact with the Tyranids occurred on the [[Explorator]] Base [[Tyran]], from which the Tyranids are named. Researchers on Tyran had logged reports of worlds being destroyed for many years until Inquisitor [[Kryptman]] began to notice a pattern. In 745.M41, Kryptman took a ship to Tyran, but received a report from the world mid-transit; Tyran had been destroyed by the alien menace it had watched for so long. Kryptman arrived on the now-barren planet, determined to learn the truth. After searching, he managed to uncover a data codex buried 3,000 meters below the surface.

Later that year, the Tyranids attacked [[Ultramar]], and thanks to the warnings of Inquisitor Kryptman (and help from [[PDF|Planetary Defense Forces]], the Imperial Fleet, and a [[Titan]] Legion), the [[Ultramarines]] were able to defeat the Tyranids of [[Hive Fleet Behemoth]] at the [[Battle for Macragge]].

==Planetary Assimilation==
Generally, contact with the Tyranids occurs when a Hive Fleet invades a system for the purpose of harvesting its bio-mass. A Hive Fleet contains an enormous number of Tyranids, and they are brought to bear against resistance in the most efficient manner possible. Below is a general outline of a typical Tyranid planetary assault (in particular, this data is collected from the Tyranid invasion of [[Dalki-Prime]]):

*'''Day 00:''' Initial [[mycetic spore]]s are dropped, generally containing [[Lictor]]s or [[Genestealer]]s. Infiltration force led by a [[synapse creature]] of some kind; reproduction of Tyranid creatures likely begins immediately.
*'''Day 09:''' By day 9, Tyranids will have expanded to around 200 km from the drop point, and will likely present a significant threat to [[PDF]] troopers and resident [[Imperial Guard]].
*'''Day 13:''' Tyranids will have expanded to 700 km from the drop point; may begin infesting local water sources.
*'''Day 37:''' Tyranids control area within 2000 km radius of the drop point; basolithic infestation to 5000 km radius.
*'''Day 48:''' Tyranid population growth skyrockets, with population doubling approximately every 2.5 days.
*'''Day 50:''' Main Hive Fleet arrives, craft generally numbering around 1.5 billion. Psychic contact with planet is cut off by the shadow of the Hive Mind. Any attempts to escape are quickly stopped by the Hive Fleet.
*'''Day 51:''' Primary consumption of bio-mass begins (resistance has generally been eliminated by day 51). Brood ships land, releasing Ripper swarms, which consume organic material and deposting them at the reclamation pools. Capillary towers (and the Brood ships) send the material into orbit. Any remaining surface life is eliminated by [[Gaunt]]s.
*'''Day 80:''' Ripper swarms board the Brood ships and return to the Hive Fleet. The hive ships descend into the upper atmosphere and begin collecting it. Reduction in atmospheric pressure causes oceans to boil away, which are also collected. Lack of oceans causes plate tectonic shifts, dramatically increasing volcanic activity. Upon completion, the Hive Fleet reenters the Warp, in search of fresh prey.

The '''Emperor''' is the single greatest human psyker who ever lived. His shattered husk of a body resides on the [[Golden Throne]] on [[Terra]], where he receives the sacrifices of hundreds of psychic each day in order to sustain his life. Throughout the centuries, the Emperor's body has withered away even further, leaving a silent corpse that barely holds onto the soul.

==The Astronomican==
Perhaps the most important role the Emperor currently plays is the broadcast of the [[Astronomican]], the psychic beacon that guides Imperial ships through the [[Warp]]. Without this beacon, Imperial craft would quickly become lost and subject to the myriad predators in warpspace, rendering faster than light travel impossible.
AvengingDentisthttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Warhammer_40k_-_Lexicanum_talk:List_of_Categories&diff=341Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum talk:List of Categories2005-06-23T19:34:17Z
AvengingDentist:

Please post your research then. It says clearly here from a White Dwarf Article that it is called the Adepta.. http://www.criticalhit.co.uk/w40krp/wd211_sisters_of_battle.shtml

I checked Codex: Witch Hunters (which I would consider the most official source for Sisters of Battle), and it ''is'' the Adept'''a''' Sororitas.
AvengingDentisthttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Talk:Ultramarines&diff=3900Talk:Ultramarines2005-06-23T07:18:15Z
AvengingDentist:

hmm can this be considered out of date fluff?, also i think the ultramarines are getting too much credit in their win over Tyranids in this article, its true they were the first Space Marine chapter to encounter and fight the Tyranids, but they would have been eradicated, if it werent for the local PDF and IG Regiments and the Titans who were brought in. I recommed some editing.

Yeah, that fluff is out of date. At least, I'm certainly not going to include it. As for the Tyranid stuff, I haven't had a chance to do the writeup for that. I've got a copy of the Battle for Macragge article in WD 255, but it's pretty long, so I haven't done anything with it yet. --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 03:02, 17 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Ok i would be best if it could be sub thing for the Ultramarines history, their thing with the Tyranids, also i scanned this and its has some history things of the Ultramarines and lots of Roboute Guilliman http://www.criticalhit.co.uk/w40krp/primarch_roboute_guilliman.shtml

== Guilliman Article ==

I glossed over the Guilliman article, and it looks like most of the same stuff in the Index Astartes: Ultramarines. Hopefully, I'll have some of this updated tomorrow.

On a related note, I was looking through the Ultramarines fleet disposition, and I've gotten some contradictory results. The 3rd edition codex lists the number of ships in the Ultramarines fleet (as of 745.M41 - the year of the Battle for Maccrage), but later fluff (i.e. Battlefleet Gothic stuff) contradicts this. Basically, the 3rd ed. codex says there are 3 Battle Barges, and names them all, while a BFG article states that there are at least five Ultramarines Battle Barges, and names some of them, too. However, all of the names are different, so unless the earlier three were all destroyed in the BfM, I'm not sure what to make of it. Further, the average Space Marine fleet contains 3 Battle Barges, and we know that the Ultramarines have a larger fleet, so this suggests that the BFG article is more accurate. I may just have to add in the article something like "reports on the disposition of the Ultramarines fleet are contradictory, but..." I think I may use the BFG stuff and just make a note of the 3rd ed. codex information in a footnote. --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 10:03, 17 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Having looked over the BFG Ultramarines article, I've decided to ignore it, as 1) it almost directly copies large parts of the fluff from the Index Astartes article, and 2) several points of the article are ''clearly'' wrong, such as the assertion that Ultramar is located in the Segmentum Tempestus. However, I'll still note that such an article exists... --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 10:23, 17 Jun 2005 (CEST)

I really dont like the part with the Tyranids, where it says: and to this day the Ultramarines seek out and destory all Tyranid infestations they can find. It makes the Ultramarines look like the big ever seeking tyranid cleaners and the only chapter perfect enough for Tyranid fighting. All the things with Nemeses, dont make much sense too me. Because all things that seeks to do harm against Mankind is a nemeses of the Space marines.

Re: Nemeses and Ultramarines v. Tyranids...
On the one hand, I do agree with you on the Ultramarines bit (I didn't write that part about Ultramarines always hunting Tyranids). The Ultramarines are, after all, a Codex Chapter, so they're not going to exclusively deal with Tyranids. ''However'', the Ultramarines are one of the most knowledgeable about Tyranids (having TWVs helps), and several other Chapters focus on one or another enemy. Rules-wise, this is reflected in the trait "Suffer not the Alien to Live". In addition, the fluff points out rivalries between groups, such as (I think) Space Wolves v. Thousand Sons. In the end, I don't really care if Nemeses is in the basic info block, but I do think some should be removed (in particular, Colors, Preferred Weapons, Specialty, and maybe Chapter Strength). --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 09:18, 23 Jun 2005 (CEST)
AvengingDentisthttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Category:Tyranids&diff=3913Category:Tyranids2005-06-21T20:06:49Z
AvengingDentist:

'''Roboute Guilliman''' was the [[Primarch]] of the [[Ultramarines]]. Roboute was lethally poisoned by the traitor Primarch [[Fulgrim]] and was interred in a stasis field at the moment of his death. He now resides on his throne within the [[Temple of Correction]] on [[Macragge]]. Many pilgrims visit every year, claiming the wound on his throat is healing. However, within the stasis field, this is technically impossible, but enough believe this story that they return year after year to pay their respects to the Primarch.

==Origins==
Like all the Primarchs, Roboute Guilliman was separated from the Emperor and came to rest on a distant planet, in this case, Macragge. Roboute's arrival on Macragge was a portentous time, and many reported strange sights. Most notably, Konor, the Battle King of Macragge, dreamed of the [[Emperor]], and found himself beside Hera's Falls in the Valley of Laponis. Upon awakening, Konor assembled his bodyguard and rode to Hera's Falls. When they finally arrived, they found a small child there. Konor took him in, naming him Roboute, which means "Great One".

==Homeworld==
The Ultramarines are unique in that, unlike their fellow chapters, they control eight systems, rather than a single planet. Collectively, these systems are known as [[Ultramar]], with [[Macragge]] as its capital. Macragge is a cold and rocky world, though certainly capable of sustaining life, and is home to the [[Fortress of Hera]], the Ultramarines' main base.

==History==
Being a First-founding Chapter, the Ultramarines have a long history dating back to before the [[Horus Heresy]]. After the [[Emperor]] landed on Macragge and met Roboute Guilliman, Roboute quickly took command of his Ultramarines. During the [[Great Crusade]], the Ultramarines won countless victories, expanding the realm of the [[Imperium]]. Due to Roboute's tactical genius, he ensured that all worlds his Legion took would become prosperous and able to contribute to the Imperium.

===The Horus Heresy===
When [[Horus]] finally declared his treachery against the Emperor, he had ordered the Ultramarines Legion to go to the Veridan System in the Segmentum Tempestus far to the galactic south, claiming that the system was under attack by an Ork invasion force from the Ghaslakh Empire. Robute Guilliman ordered his troops to depart at once and set course for Ultramar, so he could meet up with more of his forces and get supplies. Ultramar was close enough for an assault against the Veridan System, so Roboute ordered his Legion to assemble at the [[Calth]] System.

As Roboute and his fleets arrived at Calth, they instantly knew something was wrong, because none of their [[astropaths]] could get messsages through the warp and storms were messing with the navigation of the ships; they were blocked from the rest of the Imperium. It was at this moment that the tratior forces of the [[Word Bearers]] legion attacked, rendering the Ultramarines unable to participate in much of the battle for Terra.

Upon learning of the treachery, Roboute immediately set course for Terra, destroying Chaos reinforcements along the way, but arrived after the war had already been won. Because of this, the Ultramarines were one of the few Legions at full strength; thus, Roboute and his Ultramarines bore much of the burden of holding the Imperium together against aliens and Chaos forces. During this time, the Ultramarines recruited heavily from their homeworld and eventually counted for over half of the loyalist Marines. Around a decade after the Heresy began, the Imperium finally reached a point of stability.

===Creation of the Codex===
After the Horus Heresy, Roboute Guilliman set himself to create the Codex Astartes, which would define the tactics and organization of all Space Marines, from battlefield strategies to squad markings. Most important of these changes was the division of the Legions into 1,000-strong Chapters. One of the Chapters would retain the heraldry of the original Legion, but the others would be given a new name and symbol. In doing so, Guilliman hoped to divide the power of the Space Marines to ensure that the Horus Heresy could never occur again.

===Against the Tyranids===
The Ultramarines were the first Space Marine Chapter to successfully repel a [[Tyranid]] invasion. With the help of Ultramar's [[PDF]], a [[Titan]] Legion, and ships from [[Battlefleet Tempestus]], [[Hive Fleet Behemoth]] was defeated at the [[Battle for Macragge]] in 745.M41. Since then the Ultramarines have tirelessly hunted down the Tyranids to honour and avenge the fallen at the Battle for Macragge. The Ultramarines were instumental in defeating the Tyranid invasion of [[Ichar IV]] by [[Hive Fleet Kraken]] and to this day the Ultramarines seek out and destory all Tyranid infestations they can find.

==Organisation==
The Ultramarines follow the [[Codex Astartes]] in all matters of organization. As an ancient Chapter the Ultramarines have many traditions and honours that other chapters do not, the [[Axes of Ultramar]], the [[Chapter Champion]] and the Chapter [[Ancient]] to name but a few. Roughly two thirds of all Space Marines can trace their origins to the Ultramarines, and many still revere [[Roboute Guilliman]] as their creator.

===Company Disposition===
Like all Codex chapters, the Ultramarines are divided into ten Companies. Each Company is led by a hero of the Ultramarines, who - in addition to his Company command - is in charge of a particular aspect of the Chapter's logistics. The current Company commanders are as follows:

* '''First Company:''' Captain [[Agemman]], Regent of Ultramar
* '''Second Company:''' Captain [[Sicarius]], Commander of the Watch
* '''Third Company:''' Captain [[Ardias]], Commander of the Arsenal
* '''Fourth Company:''' Unknown<sup id="fn_1_back">[[#fn_1|[1]]]</sup>
* '''Fifth Company:''' Captain [[Galenus]], Master of the Marches
* '''Eighth Company:''' Captain [[Numitor]]
* '''Ninth Company:''' Captain [[Sinon]]
* '''Tenth Company:''' Captain [[Antilochus]], Chief of Recruits

===Fleet Disposition===
Since the Ultramarines control several worlds, their fleet is considerably larger than most Chapters. The Ultramarines fleet is as follows (not including planetary defense ships)[[#fn_2|[2]]]:

* 3 [[Battle Barge]]s: ''Octavius'', ''Caesar'', ''Severian''
* 8 [[Strike Cruiser]]s, including the ''Vae Victus''
Born in 876.M41 to the same family as 1st Company Veteran Sergeant Lucian Ventris (who died on [[Macragge]]'s northern Polar Defenses during the [[Battle for Macragge]]), '''Uriel Ventris''' was recruited by the [[Ultramarines]] in his 6th year. Uriel trained at the [[Agiselus Barracks]], where he graduated in 889.M41 to train at the [[Fortress of Hera]]. Nine years later, he became a full-fledged Marine in the Scout Company, and was finally inducted into the Fourth Company in 909.M41.
At the Battle of Bridge Two-Four on [[Thracia]] in 999.M41, Captain Idaeus of the Fourth Company fell, leaving Ventris in battlefield command. Ventris and the Fourth Company was called out once more in 999.M41 to repel a [[Tyranid]] threat from the planet [[Tarsis Ultra]], with the assistance of an Ultramarines descendent Chapter, the [[Mortifactors]]. However, Ventris' tactics in eliminating the Tyranids were unorthodox in the extreme, and as punishment, Chapter Master [[Marneus Calgar]] exiled both Uriel and his companion [[Pasanius]] and bound them to a death oath.

==In Exile==
Taken captive by a [[daemon]] known as the [[Omphalos Daemonium]], Uriel and Pasanius found themselves on the Iron Warriors homeworld, [[Medrengard]]. There, they did battle against the forces of Chaos as best they could, and finally managed to escape on the Omphalos' craft.

Uriel Ventris is featured in a series of novels by [[Graham McNeill]] and published by the [[Black Library]]. Ventris first appeared in the short story "Chains of Command" in [[Inferno]] 26 (republished in [[Words of Blood]]), and as of June 2005, is the central character of three novels:

==Homeworld==

==History==

===The Horus Heresy===

===Creation of the Codex===

===Against the Tyranids===

==Organisation==

===Company Disposition===

Like all the Primarchs, Roboute Guilliman was separated from the Emperor and came to rest on a distant planet, in this case, Macragge. At the moment, I think the Horus Heresy info in the Ultramarines article is pretty much complete. If you add any more Heresy stuff, it should probably go into [[Horus Heresy]] instead. Also, I intentionally left out most of the information on the discovery of Roboute Guilliman on Macragge (that'll go in [[Roboute Guilliman]]) and the information about the construction of the Fortress of Hera, which will go in [[Macragge]]. --[[User:AvengingDentist|Avenging Dentist]] 00:40, 18 Jun 2005 (CEST)
AvengingDentisthttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=User_talk:Wis&diff=278User talk:Wis2005-06-17T22:39:59Z
AvengingDentist: Horus Heresy info in Ultramarines

The Ultramarines are one of the [[First-founding Legions]] of the [[Space Marines]]. Their primarch is [[Roboute Guilliman]], whose leadership abilities (not to mention the [[Codex Astartes]]) were instrumental in humanity's survival following the [[Horus Heresy]]. Given that their primarch wrote the text that defines a Space Marine [[chapter]] in the 41st millennium, the Ultramarines follow this Codex strictly; in fact, the only deviation whatsoever are the relatively recent [[Tyrannic War Veterans]], composed entirely of veterans of the infamous [[Battle of Macragge]]. The Ultramarines are one of the most important organizations on the [[Eastern Fringe]].

==Homeworld==

==History==

===The Horus Heresy===
When [[Horus]] finally declared his treachery against the [[Emperor]], he had ordered the Ultramarines Legion to go to the Veridan System in the Segmentum Tempestus far to the galactic south, because The Warmaster claimed that the system was under attack by a Ork invasion force from the Ghaslakh Empire. Robute Guilliman ordered his troops to depart at once and set course for Ultramar, so he could meet up with more of his forces and get supplies. Ultramar was close enough for an assault against the Veridan System, so Roboute ordered his Legion to assemble at the Calth System. As Roboute and his fleets arrived at Calth, they instantly knew something was wrong, because none of their [[astropaths]] could get messsages through the warp and storms were messing with the navigation of the ships. So they were blocked from the rest of the Imperium. It was at this moment that the tratior forces of the [[Word Bearers]] legion attacked. Because of this they were unable to participate in much of the battle for Terra.

===Creation of the Codex===

==Organisation==

===Company Disposition===

The '''Primarchs''' are the 20 superhuman individuals (18 of whom are known) created by the [[Emperor]] around the time of the [[Great Crusade]]. For unknown reasons, they were scattered from Terra throughout the galaxy, and as the Emperor led the Great Crusade, he was gradually reunited with his Primarchs. The Primarchs were the genetic basis of the Space Marines, and when they had been found, they were given command of their Space Marines. Together, the 20 primarchs and their Marines formed the [[First-founding Legions]].

hmm can this be considered out of date fluff?, also i think the ultramarines are getting too much credit in their win over Tyranids in this article, its true they were the first Space Marine chapter to encounter and fight the Tyranids, but they would have been eradicated, if it werent for the local PDF and IG Regiments and the Titans who were brought in.

== Guilliman Article ==

AvengingDentisthttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Talk:Ultramarines&diff=269Talk:Ultramarines2005-06-17T08:23:59Z

Here is a place to mess around with MediaWiki's markup to figure out how various things work. Have fun!

In order to begin learning the basics of editing and creating articles, you should first visit the [[Lexicanum:Immaterium|Immaterium]], where you can experiment with the markup language Lexicanum uses. The Immaterium is an article created to allow new users to experiment with the markup without affect important articles.

==Simple Editing==

{| width="75%" border="1" cellspacing="0"
|----- valign="top"
! width="10%" | Step
! width="45%" | What to do
! width="45%" | What Happens
|----- valign="top"
| valign="center" align="center" |
'''1'''

| style="padding:3px" |
Click here to open the [[Lexicanum:Immaterium|Immaterium]] (you should probably open this in a new window - Shift+Click for most browsers - so you can still follow along on this page).

| style="padding:3px;padding-left:5px" |
The page ''Immaterium'' opens up. It probably already contains text written by other users.
|----- valign="top"
| valign="center" align="center" |
'''2'''

| style="padding:3px" |
Click on "Edit" near the top of the page. When the editing page loads, you may also want to open [[Help:Editing|Editing Help]] (a link is located below the editing pane).
| style="padding:3px;padding-left:5px" |
A new page loads showing all the content of the ''Immaterium'', now capable of being modified.

You'll probably notice several strange symbols, mostly short words in square brackets - [ and ] - or in angle brackets - < and >. These are "tags" that help to format the article to make it easier to read or to add certain special functions. The square-bracketed tags are MediaWiki tags (the basics are explained at [[Lexicanum:Editing|Editing Help]]) and the angle-bracketed tags are simple HTML.
|----- valign="top"
| valign="center" align="center" |
'''3'''

| style="padding:3px" |
Make a few changes to the article and then click "Save Page" below.

(Note: paragraphs can be made by inserting a blank line between two blocks of text).
| style="padding:3px;padding-left:5px" |
The page is updated with your changes, and other users are able to view them (as well as a record of what changes were made and when).

If, while you were editing the page, another user saved his version of the page, you will be notified that there is an editing conflict. In this case the upper text field contains the text of the other user, own your text below, and between them the difference between both versions. You can then choose whether to edit the page to incorporate the other user's changes, or upload your own version.
|}

== Adding Links and New Articles ==

{| width="75%" border="1" cellspacing="0"
|----- valign="top"-
! width="10%" | Schritt
! width="45%" | What to do
! width="45%" | What Happens
|----- valign="top"
| valign="center" align="center" |
'''1'''

| style="padding:3px" |
At the [[Lexicanum:Immaterium|Immaterium]], click again on "edit" and add some text in double square brackets, for example: <nowiki>[[Angron]]</nowiki>. Then click on "preview" to show you the result.

| style="padding:3px;padding-left:5px" |
You will see a link to the article [[Angron]]. If this page already exists, clicking on the link will take you to that article. If not, you will be taken to an editing window to add text to the article when you click on it.
|----- valign="top"
| valign="center" align="center" |
'''2'''

| style="padding:3px" |
If you would like the link text to differ from the article, add a "pipe" (looks like '|') after the name of the article and then type in the text you would like to be displayed. For example, <nowiki>[[Angron|World Eaters Primarch]]</nowiki>
| style="padding:3px;padding-left:5px" |
You will see a link to the article [[Angron]], but it will look like this:

[[Angron|World Eaters Primarch]].
|----- valign="top"
| valign="center" align="center" |
'''3'''

| style="padding:3px" |
The "pipe" as described above is also useful on its own. If you just add the pipe after an article name, it will automatically remove its namespace and any words in parentheses afterwards. For example, try typing <nowiki>[[Leman Russ (primarch)|]] and [[Category:First-founding Legions|]]</nowiki>.
| style="padding:3px;padding-left:5px" |
You will see link to the articles [[Leman Russ (primarch)]] and [[:Category:First-founding Legions]] but they will look like this:

[[Leman Russ (primarch)|Leman Russ]] and [[:Category:First-founding Legions|First-founding Legions]].
|}

== Where to Now? ==
You may want to look at the next page like this, [[Lexicanum:Second-Steps|Second-Steps]], or you might want to view the [[Lexicanum:Tutorial|Tutorial]], which gives a more general overview of the things you can do at Lexicanum.

==Homeworld==

==Organization==
The Ultramarines follow the [[Codex Astartes]] in all matters of organization, however because they control a much larger area than most Chapters the Ultramarines Fleet is larger than normal.

* '''Fourth Company:''' Unknown<sup id="fn_1_back">[[#fn_1|[1]]]</sup>
* '''Fifth Company:''' Captain [[Galenus]], Master of the Marches
* '''Sixth Company:''' Captain [[Epathus]], Master of the Rites
* '''Seventh Company:''' Captain [[Ixion]], Chief Victualler
* '''Eighth Company:''' Captain [[Numitor]]
* '''Ninth Company:''' Captain [[Sinon]]
* '''Tenth Company:''' Captain [[Antilochus]], Chief of Recruits

[[#fn_1_back|Note]]: Until 999.M41, Captain [[Idaeus]] led the Fourth Company, but died in battle on [[Thracia]]. [[Uriel Ventris]] was confirmed as the successor captain shortly after, but has been exiled from the Ultramarines for failing to adhere to the Codex Astartes.

==The Ultramarines and the Tyranids==
The Ultramarines were the first Space Marine Chapter to fight and defeat a [[Tyranid]] invasion when [[Hive Fleet Behemoth]] attacked the [[Eastern Fringe]] and was defeated at the [[Battle of Macragge]]. Since then the Ultramarines have tirelessly hunted down the [[Tyranids]] to honour and avenge the fallen at the [[Battle of Macragge]]. The Ultramarines were instumental in defeating the [[Tyranid]] invasion of [[Ichar IV]] by [[Hive Fleet Kraken]] and to this day the Ultramarines seek out and destory all [[Tyranid]] infestations they can find.
