This began in M42, nine members of Garmesh's population, which languished in poverty under the rulership of Imperial Governor Habeyl VII, began to receive visions during their dreams. These nine were also Psykers, who gained their powers due to the Great Rift's creation, and the voice bade them to pool their psychic abilities together in order to save their Hive World. The group believed it was the God-Emperor speaking to them and that he had chosen them to be his champions. This made them do as they were asked and after the group found each other, they formed a cabal in Garmesh's Underhive. Shortly afterwards, a winged being of blazing light manifested within their midst. This entity then blessed the cabal, by magnifying their psychic abilities ninefold and told them they had the power to change the Hive World beyond recognition - if they fully employed their newfound psychic powers. Blinded by faith and hope, the nine cabal psykers named themselves the Heralds of Change, and set about mounting a sorcerous insurrection upon Garmesh.1
They were powerful and had the abilities to glimpse the future, conjure changes in the fabric of reality and unleash upon their oppressors the curse of mutation, for which so many of Garmesh's underhivers had long been hunted and culled. The Heralds could also read thoughts and enslave the wills of their unwitting foes, which led to the cabal's growing coalition of Hive gangs and zealous militia. These were used against the Hive World's Enforcers that were sent to kill them and soon their influence began to increase. Later, as the faith of the Heralds of Change took hold throughout the Hive World, many amongst the authorities and the manufacturers' guilds, and even some of Garmesh's Ecclesiarchal Preachers, joined the cabal. The Heralds became a serious threat to Habeyl VII's rule and this caused the Imperial Commander to send out astropathic pleas for aid. He and his and his fellow Nobles would then hide out in their Hive Spire fortresses and demanded that their household guards hold back the cabal's onslaught until help could arrive. Once the Heralds learned of this, they became desperate and with victory so close at hand, the cabal beseeched the God-Emperor to aid them. However it was not the Emperor, but the Lord of Change Tz'Keth'K'Zar who answered their plea. All had occurred as the Greater Daemon of Tzeentch had foreseen, since he first appeared to his unwitting pawns and bestowed his gifts upon them. K'Zar was all too pleased to aid the cabal again and once he manifested upon Garmesh, he had the nine Heralds consumed by raging pillars of warpfire, which quickly connected into a nine-sided Warp Gate. Out from that inferno spilled the daemon legions of Tzeentch and the Hive World was soon engulfed by the Chaos God's power.1
