Background

Alaitoc is an Eldar Craftworld known for its extensive use of Rangers. Related to this is the fact that Alaitoc is also a highly ordered Craftworld; in response many individuals choose instead the Path of the Outcast, becoming Rangers.

While all craftworlds make use of the highly efficient sniper Rangers, none field or produce more than Alaitoc. By their nature Alaitoc Rangers do not reside upon the Craftworld, but travel the galaxy. These rangers retain their loyalty to Alaitoc, returning to their craftworld on occasion. Aside from the regular Rangers, Alaitoc is also the only craftworld to field the highly skilled Rangers known as Pathfinders.3 These highly trained snipers can cause havoc to the enemy. In times of need the Craftworld sometimes recalls their Rangers to contribute to Alaitoc's forces.

Alaitoc uses a sword symbol which represents the Sword of Vaul, the weapon forged for the Smith God's desperate battle against Khaine. It represents the defiance and determination of its people. Alaitoc is associated with the colour blue or with the combination of blue and yellow.

Invasion

Sometime in M41 Alaitoc would find itself invaded by the armies of the Imperium of Man. What exactly provoked the Imperium to do this is unknown, but they struck with large numbers of Imperial Guard, Imperial Navy, and Space Marine forces. Forewarned to the attack by the Craftworlds Farseers, the Eldar managed to prepare for the assault and were aided by the Phoenix Lords Baharroth, Maugan Ra, and Karandras.4a Though the assault by the Imperial Guard initially went poorly in the face of Alaitoc's Aspect Warriors, through weight of numbers and a Space Marine Drop Pod assault, the human forces managed to drive deep into the Craftworld.4b4c Taking casualties in the face of the Space Marine spearhead and the Imperial Guard forces supporting them, the Eldar were forced to withdraw in order to defend the Alaitoc's Infinity Circuit and core cities after the outlaying Exodite settlements were overrun.4d The Imperial assault was then slowed by the intervention of Phantom Titans and an Avatar of Khaine.4e Though no definitive ending to the invasion has been given as of yet, it is suggested that after a long and bloody struggle the Imperial forces were finally expelled.4f
