==Background==

The Angels of Repentance, usually known as Angels of Repent or Repent Angels, were founded when too many Marine and Guardsmen deaths were occurring and The Imperium was beginning to falter.

To solve this problem, The Emperor decided to allow small scale Heretics and criminals to be allowed a chance for redemption. The plan was to let Heretics and criminals don the armour of the Angels of repentance, charge forwards for the glory of The Imperium and slay the enemies of the Emperor. They are usually thrown in first, most Heretics do not survive their first battles, but at least they kill more enemies of The Emperor.

Any Heretics that survive many wars, are classed as Half Redeemed, they are still not allowed out of the Chapter, but have a higher rank. Once they pass through the ranks, they are classed as Fully Redeemed and so are allowed free from the Chapter. They can stay with the Angels if they wish, or they can leave the Space Marines for good.

Many Heretics have been redeemed this way, but many, many more have died trying to gain this redemption. Still, the numbers of enemies slain dwarfs both these figures put together, which has been done on many occasions, in attempts to see if the Chapter still works as it should.

The Angels of Repentance, are the Chapter that has had the most Inquisition interference, mainly because some Heretics escape, or are suspected to have tainted the Chapter.

The Angels are one of the few Chapters that has more than 1,000 members. The main reason for this is the fact that there are thousands of Heretics and criminals trying to escape Death.

The numbers are actually estimated to be around 10,000. This means that there are around 100 companies, all controlled by at least one Fully Redeemed or proper Marine.
