Custodian-Warder Arascid Nassau[2]

Arascid Nassau was a Custodian-Warder of the Legio Custodes at the end of the Great Crusade. He was a member of the Vedias-Aleph Sodality of the Warders of the Vaults of Rython and fought in the Battle of Prospero.[1b]

Biography

Although there is no record of Nassau's service prior to his assignment to the Prosperine Censure Host,[1b] his name suggests a link to the Black Manse of Nas'sau, capital of one of the earliest techno-barbarian holds to submit to the Emperor of Mankind in the Unification Wars.[1a]

During the Battle of Prospero, Nassau was noted to have single-handedly despatched a wave of Prosperine civilians driven insane by the Warp, using their bodies to create a break-wall which he defended alone for an hour of continuous attack.[1b]

Nassau would later fight the Thousand Sons again in 012.M31, when the Imperium learned that some of the Traitor Legion's forces were rebuilding on Axandria IV. This led Malcador the Sigillite to dispatch a new Censure Fleet to destroy the Thousand Sons, the horde of knowledge they held and bring ruin to Axandria for their loyalty to the Traitor Legion. The new Fleet was placed under Nassau's command and it shattered Axandria's orbital defenses, before its forces invaded the world. Their target was the pyramid Sinsilanita, where the Thousand Sons were gathered and the Imperials fought their way through Axandria's militia to reach it. Though the Thousand Sons laid in wait, they stood no chance and soon retreated into Sinsilanita's data-vaults and sealed its entrance. Before the entrance could be breached by Nassau's forces, a Thousand Sons fleet suddenly appeared and began attacking the Imperials' warships above Axandria. The Traitor Fleet teleported several hundred more Thousand Sons into the sealed data-vaults and they led a surprise attack on Nassau's forces. Facing such unexpectedly large numbers of foes, led the Imperials to retreat from Sinsilanita and they began guarding the outside of the pyramid's plaza entrance. However the Thousand Sons quickly attacked them once again, and the Traitor Legion's fleet in orbit had also been able to drive the Imperials' warships from Axandria. This allowed the Traitor Fleet to deploy its transports to evacuate the Thousand Sons and their knowledge from the world. While Nassau's forces reaped a heavy toll on the retreating Thousand Sons and also destroyed many of their transports, the majority of the Traitor Legion's forces were able to escape. The battle was then over, but while Axandria was now in the Imperium's hands, Nassau held no pride in this accomplishment. He had been charged with destroying the Thousand Sons and their horde of knowledge, but had ultimately failed at both tasks.[3]

Wargear

Nassau wore black-liveried Custodian Armour and wielded a Guardian Spear.[1b]
