Arethusa Baneblade

Arethusa was a Lucius-pattern Baneblade Super Heavy Tank in service with the Konig 9th Heavy Tank Company.[1a][1b]

The tank was sometimes known as "212" Arethusa, after its vehicle number.[1b]

History

By the time of the Colonia Campaign (857.M41[2]), Arethusa was commanded by Maximillian Weisemann.[1a][1b]

During the campaign, the Konig 9th were attached to the second company of the Mortant 7th 'Headhunters' regiment as armoured support. At one point in the campaign, Arethusa and her crew were stationed as part of the Imperial defensive lines near the Cambria River. When the Ork Warlord Gharag Badtoof and its hordes breached the lines, Weisemann saw an opportunity to eliminate the enemy leader and deal a decisive blow to the orks. However, although Arethusa destroyed a number of ork vehicles, the tank got bogged down in the mud and was rendered helpless. Shortly after Weisemann gave the order to evacuate, Arethusa was destroyed by an ork fighta-bommer.[1b]

Weisemann ordered those crewmembers who had survived but were wounded to retreat back to the Imperial lines while he and the uninjured crew remained behind to hold off the orks. Although the retreating crew made it back safely, it took a further two months for the Mortant 7th to recapture the area and reach the remains of Arethusa. Weisemann and the remaining crew were gone and their bodies were never recovered.[1b]
