The
Eye of Terror and its outskirts
The Astartes Praeses are eighteen Space Marine Chapters whose main task is to guard the frontiers of the Eye of Terror. The brotherhood was originally founded with twenty chapters, but one has been destroyed and another declared excommunicatus traitorus.[1]
Their task, assigned by the Adeptus Terra, is to protect the Imperium from Chaos incursions from within the Eye. This is not an easy task and the chapters bear the brunt of countless raids, and sometimes even full Black Crusades before reinforcements are able to reach them. Of major importance was the now destroyed Cadian system.[Needs Citation]
Over the millennia, several of the chapters have been lost to combat losses, or corrupted by the prozimity to the Eye and declared Excommunicatus. The loss of Cadia and the destruction of the Cadian Gate leaves the future of the Astartes Praeses order uncertain.[Needs Citation]
