Baraspine is tidally locked and does not rotate, creating a stagnant dismal climate. Nonetheless the planet maintains a modest industrial output consisting mostly of Cogitators. Unusually for a Hive World, the planet is dotted with many smaller communities.^[1][2]

The Governors of Baraspine are chosen by a college of soothsayers who utilize the Emperor's Tarot.^[2]
