The Cadian Shock Troopers are Imperial Guard regiments from the fortress world of Cadia. Cadia is located at the edge of the Eye of Terror and so forms the first line of defence against Chaos incursions, such as the Black Crusades. Because of this, Cadia is regarded as one of the most strategically important planets in the Galaxy.20

History
Cadian regiments have been involved in many wars, campaigns and battles off-world. Because of this, the Cadians are widely regarded as the best troops in the Imperium, short of the Space Marines themselves.9,20 With the coming of Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade, they were forced to fight on their own soil. In the early stages of the Black Crusade, they confronted and destroyed the Volscani Cataphracts (a renegade Imperial Guard army) at the Battle of Tyrok Fields on Cadia itself. They were eventually successful at securing the Cadia system, although at a heavy price to human life and resources. Cadians were also among the forces that fought in the Third War for Armageddon.
Organization
Due to its location, Cadia and its surrounding neighbours are some of the most militarised and fortified worlds in the Imperium.
On Cadia (during the 13th Black Crusade), they are led by the formidable Lord Castellan Ursarkar E. Creed.
- Recruitment and training
As a fortress world, most of the population of Cadia is under arms, and most aspire to join the ranks of the Imperial Guard or the Cadian Interior Guard, Cadia's PDF. Cadia's militarization is such that most children learn military doctrine before they can walk, inspiring maxims such as: "any Cadian who can't field-strip his own lasgun by the age of 10 was born on the wrong planet" and "If the ammo ain't live, this ain't no Cadian practice".
Cadian youth begin training in the Youth Armies, and eventually are inducted into the Whiteshields, where they fight alongside Cadian regiments and gain vital experience through actual combat. The best and most promising of the Youth Army cadets are selected for special training, eventually joining the elite Kasrkin.
- Battle style
The specialist troops the regiment employs consist of Storm Troopers, Grenadiers, Whiteshields and Psykers.
- Equipment
All Cadians are armed with the standard-issue Lasgun and Flak Armour but certain guardsmen are armed with special or heavy weapons. They fight at the front lines, preferring frontal assaults to devious schemes and feint attacks.
Their support weapons of choice are the grenade launcher and the autocannon.
Their conscripts, the Whiteshields, are the youth of Cadia who are inducted into the Imperial Guard and are just starting their training. They are armed with standard equipment, although they lack the skill of their standard counterparts, and only a few of their members have the honour to carry any kind of support weapon.
Their elites, the Kasrkins, are their equivalent to the standard Storm Trooper. They carry Hellguns, wear carapace armour, grenades, and use only assault weapons (no heavy weapons) as their support weapon in combat.
The Cadian-pattern Sentinel is armoured and equipped with an autocannon.
