Targetdrone.gif This article is about the Salamanders vessel; for the Imperial Navy warship, see Chalice of Fire.

The Chalice of Fire is a vast forgeship, the first of the nine Artefacts of Vulkan to be recovered.[2e]

History

The Chalice of Fire is the maker of the sublime and the enduring,[2] with a forge whose heat nothing can endure. It was in the Chalice of Fire that the first Forgefather, T'kell, destroyed thousands of Vulkan's artefacts at the primarch's bidding. It was capable of mounting the Eye of Vulkan, a laser weapon and another of the artefacts, on its hull.[2a] During the Horus Heresy, it carried T'kell and the Unscarred to the Wrought, where they intended to seal it away, but they found the Sons of Horus had already found the vault.[2b] It was later severely damaged in battle with forces of the Shattered Legions who sought to take and use the artefacts aboard, left drifting through the void after the reserve power failed.[2d]

In M41, the Chalice of Fire was found adrift in a debris field by a force of Salamanders under Vulkan Dir'san. Sergeant Ko'tan boarded the ship and confirmed that while the Eye of Vulkan was still attached, the vault containing the other artefacts had been breached and was empty.[2e] It is now permanently docked at the base of the Salamanders Fleet on Prometheus. Its vast manufactoria provide the Salamanders with their weapons of war.[1] The Adeptus Mechanicus view the vessel with envy and acquisitive intent, and seek any piece information pertaining to its operation.[3]
