The Chromyd Front was a battle within the Charadon Campaign, which began after the Chromyd System was invaded by the Death Guard Chaos Lord, Thraxoplasmox's warhost.[1]

Overview

The System had been well defended before Thraxoplasmox's invasion, as it had recently been reinforced in response to raids by the Dark Eldar. However, the Imperium's forces were stretched out over a wide area, due to the nature of the Xenos' rapid and unpredictable strikes. This left the Chromyd System vulnerable and allowed Thraxoplasmox's warhost to successfully invade the System.[1]

The first major battle of the campaign came at Martyr's Rest when Lelith Hesperax and her Dark Eldar forces conducted a raid. The capital city, Purity, was turned into a gigantic arena of pain and death to serve as a spectacle for the elite of Commorragh. When the Death Guard arrived most of the Xenos withdrew, though some were destroyed by the Chaos Space Marines. The plane tultimately fell to the Death Guard despite fierce resistance from the Order of the Sable Robe of the Sisters of Battle and the PDF known as the Martyr's Rest Crematorians, Martyr's Rest Pyrestokers, and Martyr's Rest Graveguard. In the aftermath, Imperial forces under General Vilhelm Klapp conducted a guerrilla war in the catacombs of the Ashes of Heroes Crypts.[2]

The traitors next struck at Dyroch's Reach, assisted by Dreadblade Knights known as the Company Malevolent. The Chaos forces conducted a blockade which led to widespread starvation and despair amongst the defenders. At Hive Ghent, the Death Guard launched an amphibious invasion against its lower levels, finally succeeding in establishing a breach on the seventh attempt. The Chaos forces also experienced fierce resistance in combating the defenders well-guarded supply convoys. The five-mile long Enthraki Desert Supply Convoy was guarded by warriors riding Knight-sized beasts known as Tuskaphant which were initially able to drive back the Chaos Knights. A further action of note is one carried out by Strike Force Krenzig of the Black Guard Chapter and Strike Force Vorgha of the White Scars, which were able to conduct a guerrilla war among the hab-block-sized termite mounts and steep-sided ravines of the Dereen Canyon. They were able to frustrate the advance of multiple Death Guard vectoriums. Ultimately however the world fell to the Chaos forces.[2]

In orbit, Death Guard forces experienced fierce resistance capturing the orbital defense station 570 "Star Breaker". Imperial forces under General Barphemius Dyroch conducted a fierce defense, but were ultimately overcome by 6th Plague Company Terminators.[2]

The Industrial World of Okharium suffered many Dark Eldar raids before the Death Guard assault and as a result it had been reinforced with regiments of Savlar Chem-Dogs and Death Korps of Krieg. When the Death Guard landed they found most of the Imperial Guard defenses to have been degraded by Dark Eldar assaults, and to further compound the Imperials subversive Cults rose up with the appearance of the Arch-Enemy. At the 15th Chem Canal Magna-Junction, the Okharium Canalguard and Salvar Chem-Dogs went toe to toe with the Death Guard 4th Plague Company and waves of Plague Zombies and Poxwalkers. In a vicious battle the Imperials were able to secure over fifty rigs in the Canal, aided by Tempestus Scions of the 31st Omeghon Gorgons, 503rd Nuvin Lions, and 79th Psion Banshees.
