Combat Shield[1]

A combat shield is a form of shield utilizing similar technology to that used by power weapons, to produce a field of energy around the face of the shield. It is used by the Space Marines and is a smaller and less-protective version of the Storm Shield used by Terminator armoured Marines.[Needs Citation]

The shield is made of plasteel and incorporates a power generator which, when activated, produces a small field of energy around the face of the shield. The shield can take many shapes depending on the Chapter. The Crimson Fists use coffin-shaped shields, the Blood Angels use cruciforms, and the Iron Fists' shields take the form of armoured gauntlets. It is small enough to be strapped to the arm, leaving both hands free for another weapon to be used.[Needs Citation]

Boarding Shield

Breacher Siege Space Marine of the Iron Hands with a Boarding Shield[3]

Boarding Shields were a bulkier version of the standard Combat Shields and were used by Space Marine Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy era by Breacher squads. Due to its size Boarding Shields gave bigger advantage in the confined close quarter fighting so were especially usable during the starship boarding actions and siege attacks. Although the protective field of Boarding Shields was inferior to the field of mighty Storm Shields the prototypes of which were beginning to enter service of Legiones Astartes at the time of the Horus Heresy, the Boarding Shields remained a vital part of a Legion's armour throughout this conflict.[2]
