Apothocary's Honour

by Simon Jowett

Korpus, Apothocary for the Space Marines Chapter the Avenging Sons's Second Company, searches through the ashen remains of the civilian population of the planet Antillis IV, searching for his fellow Marines. They were sent to aid an Imperial Garrison that was battling the forces of Chaos. When Korpus recieves a call for aid, he moves through the ashen waste to find the injured Pereus, a veteran Sergeant. He was too late to help the soldier, but performed the Rite of Extreme Unction and began to remove the Sergeant's Progenoid Gland. Years before, Apothocary Lorus explained the duty and nature of the Apothocaries and the process of removing Progenoid Glands. It was in the Apothocaries' Chaple of Martyrs that Korpus and the others were shown how to remove the Progenoid Gland. Korpus remembered this first removal while he worked on Pereus.

Afterwards, Korpus was messaged by Commander Selleus. Selleus relayed the information that more Chaos Space Marines were landing on the planet and that the Company's Librarian had perished. The Progenoid Glands of the Librarian was extremely important and Korpus hurried back. However, Selleus commanded him to retreat instead, and return the Glands safely. At that moment, the command was being overrun by Chaos troops and was soon destroyed in a suicidal explosion.

Korpus moved quickly to the Thunderhawks that were outside of the Chaos infested areas, where the company's Navigator, Tiresias, suggested them to be stationed. As he moved across the landscape, he could see that the Chaos forces already destroyed much of the Imperial forces, and had even taken the nearby city. As they make it to the landing site, they find only three Thunderhawks not completely destroyed and Imperial Guardsmen killed by Necromancy from the Chaos energies, and when some rose again, they were quickly destroyed. Salvus, the only one experienced with vehicles, set to work trying to get one of the Thunderhawks ready. As Korpus placed the vials into storage, the enemy finds them and the scouts attack.
