The Dulma'lin Cleansing was a year-long campaign fought by the Catachan II regiment under the command of Colonel "Iron Hand" Straken in 926.M41. It mainly occured in the Ork-infested cavern network of the planet Dulma'lin, where the Catachans used guerrilla tactics to wreak havoc amongst the Orks.[1][2]

Overview

The mission briefing originally involved the Catachans sabotaging the Orks war efforts, then opening the vast city gates to an army of the Imperial Guard's Selvian Dragoons. Unfortunately, the Selvian Dragoons were ambushed en route to the capitol and slaughtered, leaving the Catachans alone amongst an army of Orks. Straken and his Jungle Fighters, amongst them Sly Marbo, soon engaged in a year-long of war of sabotage and guerrilla tactics against the vast Ork hordes.[4]

At one point, the infamous Ork Kommando Snikrot engaged Straken in a brutal dual, eventually being defeated and grievously injured.[4]

The breaking moment of the campaign was the infiltration of the main Ork settlement in the Mommothian Vault by Straken and his demolition experts. They managed to stay undetected for 3 days before Squighounds finally located them. By then however, it was too late, with the team having laid explosives on the cavern's support stacks, while Straken himself fought off the Ork horde, killing no less then 30 of them and wiping out a Killa Kan mob before dragging the Warlord Killzkar beneath a Squiggoth, who trampled them both.[1][2]

Incredibly, the demolition team managed to pull their Colonel's body out from the cavern, Sly Marbo personally carried Straken to safety, just before it collapsed, destroying the entire settlement beneath. The Colonel's body was patched back together and he was redeployed to the Ulani system with his regiment, while the High Praetor Osh'preen arrived two days later with reinforcements and easily finished off the now-leaderless Ork horde, taking all the credit for himself and becoming the planet's Governor.[1][2][4]

Two years later, in 928.M41, the corrupt and lax reign of Governor Osh'preen opened the way for a heretical uprising by the Slaaneshi Cult of Frantic Flensing. The Catachan II were the only regiment close enough to offer assistance but, thanks to a mysterious series of communication failures that bedeviled the Catachans, Osh'preen and his corrupt government were left to their remarkably horrible fate.[3]
