Durek was an Imperial Navy Flag Captain in Battlefleet Jericho, who commanded the Battlecruiser Power of Terra, during the Age of Apostasy.[1d]

History

Despite serving the Imperium's ruler High Lord Goge Vandire, Durek had sympathy for the rebellious Sebastian Thor's beliefs. He also had contacts within Thor's army, the Confederation of Light, which was steadily destroying the strength of Vandire's rule. When his sympathies towards Thor were discovered in 273.M36, an assassin was sent to kill Durek. The Flag Captain escaped, however, and fled aboard the Power of Terra. He would later encounter Mordecai Haarlock[1d], who was leading a rebellion against the Jericho Sector's puppet rulers[1c]. Known as the Over-Governors, they were lackeys of High Lord Vandire, who ruled the Sector in his name. They also did whatever they could to increase their power and wealth[1a]. This included seizing property, rising the quota-tallies the Sector owed to the Imperium and purging anyone they considered a threat to them.[1b]. Their corruption had led Haarlock to begin a rebellion against the Over-Governors' rule[1c] and Durek decided to join him. The Flag Captain then shared his network of contacts within Battlefleet Jericho and aided Haarlock in forming an alliance with the Confederation of Light[1d]. This greatly aided in the rebellion defeating the Over-Governors[1e] and weakening High Lord Vanidre's rule, over the Jericho Sector.[1f]
