Enkidu is a world of the Askellon Sector.[1]

Overview

Enkidu is a world of impossibly dense and dark forests and is home to a variety of fearsome beasts which terrorize the local primitive population. The locals are a hardy stock whose small isolated villages constantly war with one another, with only the strongest surviving. However instead of taking control of territory in their never-ending conflicts, the victors instead take slaves. Thus each of the tribes is divided into the tribal rulers who have taken a prisoner and those who are enslaved. Who is free and slave is ever-shifting and the locals accept their change in status with unusual quiescence.[1]

History

Though in a strategically important location, travel to the surface of Enkidu is forbidden by Imperial authorities and the planet is shrouded in mystery. A permanent blockade fleet is in orbit to prevent any from violating the orders. When Enkidu was first discovered by Humanity and incorporated into the Imperium isn't truly known, but it has been observed that the Warp itself seems to recoil in terror around its presence.[1]

During the Cataclysm of Souls the Ecclesiarchy attempted to lay claim to Enkidu and the massive Wars of Faith eventually reached it. However the fate of this expedition is unknown. In the aftermath of the Cateclysm, Arch-Cardinal Vasil Bordo noted the failure to conquer Enkidu and declared another War of Faith to capture it. In truth, Bordo sought to subvert the Askellon nobility and establish himself as supreme ruler in a new impregnable sector capital, using the religious war as a pretense.[1]

In the ensuing Enkidu Suppression the Ecclesiarchy gathered large amounts of civilians onto bulk cargo vessels for delivery onto Enkidu. Bordo himself led the first landing, declaring to the hordes of Zealots that no other feet should trod upon Enkidu's surface until the War of Faith was victorious. It was then that all contact with the war was lost, and it was only many weeks later that the Cardinals of the Askellon Sector picked up a soul Astropathic signal that simply stated It knows. With Bordo's death, efforts to invade the federal world ended and the remnants of the Suppression evaporated without him to guide it. Justifying their blockade with Bordo's final decree, a blockade has remained in place over Enkidu ever since the disaster.[1]

Despite the blockade there is some evidence of what exists on the surface of Enkidu. Often in the form of videos, they showcase footage of fearsome creatures on the ground and the warring natives in the trees. Often their recordings are all that remain, showing eldritch arcs of energy before dissolving into static. Rumors say the plane tis littered with crashed ships and ruins from primordial colonies and one even maintain there is a huge, silvered hull half-buried in the earth. Some claim that Enkidu is descended from the nobility of the Askellon Sector, marking them as descendants of the original colony fleet. Others insist that the ship is one of the lost founding vessels carrying a full STC. More still are certain that at some point during the population's development, a sub-group of Psykers emerged that became able to repel the denizens of the Warp. There are always rumors of Rogue Trader or Mechanicum expeditions attempting to circumvent the blockade, with no reported success.[1]
