The Exalted Court is a collection of Barons who serve directly beneath the High Monarch of a Knight House.[1a][2a][3a]

Overview

Generally speaking, the Barons of a Knight House form a caste between their Monarch and the other Knights of the House. However, not all Barons are necessarily equal in rank - some may be elevated above the others by their Monarch and hold special roles and responsibilities within the House.[1a][2a][3a]

The members of the Court are usually powerful veterans of their House, and command great respect and authority.[1a][2a][3a] Each member of the Exalted Court will have their position marked on their Knight suit's heraldry; on a Questoris Pattern Knight, this is usually displayed on the tilting plate that sits by the pilot's cockpit.[1c][1d][2b][2c][3b]

Questor Imperialis

The typical roles in a Questor Imperialis household's Exalted Court are:

Questor Mechanicus

In a Questor Mechanicus household, the members of the Exalted Court are referred to as Barons Prime.[1b][2a][3a] Their typical roles are:

  • Forge Master — Charged with defending the House's keep, including its sacred relics, and with overseeing the House's Sacristans.[3d]
  • Master of Lore — Also known as the Cogitator Prime. Keeper of the House's lore and master of the House's traditions, in addition to acting as an arbiter in judging those who have transgressed the House.[3d]
  • Master of Vox — Also known as the Broadhailer. Bearer of the House's most advanced vox equipment, for communicating with separate detachments or allies.[3d]
  • Master Tactician — Military advisor to the House's Princeps and leader of the House's armed forces in their absence.[3d]
