Fafnir Rann[5]

Fafnir Rann was a Captain of the Imperial Fists during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

History

Born on Inwit, as a baby Fafnir was discovered at the bank of the River of Life. His mother was still clutching him, though she had since died from starvation and stabbing while escaping from the House of Dorn. It was reasoned that his mother fled the Dorn's to protect the child, and he was subsequently taken in by a Tribe known as The Rann. He was raised by an adopted mother, who refused those who demanded Fafnir be returned to the Dorn in order to avoid tribal war. He was raised to believe he was chosen to one day rise up against the Dorn. When he transitioned to adulthood, he was made Chief of the Rann and waged war against the Dorn. However shortly after, Rogal Dorn arrived and everything changed. Rann was subsequently inducted into the Imperial Fists.[5b]

Rann became a high-ranking member of his Legion, designated as Lord Seneschal and commander of the first assault cadre. In battle, he wielded twin axes and a large shield.[4] During the Horus Heresy, Rann served alongside Sigismund in the First Sphere defenses of the Sol System and took part in the Battle of Pluto[2]. When the Solar War reached its final phase, Rann commanded of one of the Three Sisters of Spite Frigates Persephone and fought Horus' forces around Pluto under the command of Sigismund.[3a]

During the Siege of Terra Fafnir Rann was placed in charge of the defense of the Lion's Gate Spaceport. He held the line for much of the battle, but was overwhelmed by a massive traitor attack led by Kroeger, Kharn, and Abaddon. During the battle Kroeger dueled with Kroeger and was wounded, but ultimately was saved thanks to the intervention of Sigismund.[5a] Later, Rann oversaw the defenses of Gorgon Bar alongside Sanguinius against a large attack by the Iron Warriors. During the battle, Rann displayed honor when he helped an Iron Warrior rise to his feet before killing him so that he did not die on his knees.[6]

After the Heresy, he founded and led the Executioners Space Marine Chapter.[1]
