Tau Fire Warrior

The Fire Warrior is the backbone of Tau military force, the Fire Caste.

Equipment

Fire Warriors are outfitted with a wide variety of advanced technology. Their main firearm is the Pulse Rifle, although Pulse Carbines are common amungst officers, reconisence teams and assault troops. Fire warriors have poorer reflexes than most other races therefore they do not exell at melee combat, to make matters worse, they find the whole idea of melee combat barbaric, they leave this role to their kroot mercenery allies. Most fire warriors are bonded to the ta'lissera brotherhood ritual and are armed with ceremonial swords, despite these not being ideal for combat. 5

The standard fire warrior is also equiped with armor that include shoulder pads, thigh guards, chest guard, helmet, and vambraces. The left shoulder plate is also extremly large and usually thicker than all the other armor pieces. The helmet provides infra-red and heat vision capability, displays ammo levels, and the status of the suit of armor as a whole.3

Tactics and Organisation

Fire warriors As basic infantry, they are deployed in smaller numbers than other race's infantry because of the superior firepower they can bring to bear. The basic team is made up of 6 to 9 Fire Warriors, a number of drones for, defencive and offensive purposes and most likely a shas'ui. 4

During defensive purposes, with minimal cover fire from battlesuits and melee diversions such as kroot, a small group of fire warriors could hold a bastion of defence until either overwhelmed by enemy fire or running out of ammo. During offensive assaults, the fire warrior is considered one of the most dangerous units a enemy could face, most of the time the enemy does not even have time to counter the rapid volleys of pulse shots fired by fire warriors as the Tau always ensure there are kroot to divert fire or shield drones to protect the squads.5

Ranks

A Fire warrior starts his military career as a Shas'saal, meaning a cadet. After completing training courses, the Warrior becomes a standard deployment trooper, or Shas'la. Passing a Trial By Fire is the only way to increase rank for a Warrior, these trials are held every 4 years.

Shas'ui are veterans, and act as Sergeants/Team Leaders in Fire Warrior Teams.

Shas'vre are the bodyguards of the Shas'el. They are battlesuit pilots and are extremlyloyal to their Shas'el.

Shas'el are the commanders of a battle, they are equivilent to a low class imperial general or an brigandier general in real life.

Shas'O is the highest rank in the military of the Empire. They are considered generals of the army in real life.

After the Fire Warrior has gained the Shas'O rank, he is allowed to leave the military and retire after another 4 years service, perhaps to the paradise worlds of the Empire or go into politics. 3
