Gaval is a Mining World of the Imperium and the third planet of the Armageddon System.[1]

Overview

Gaval is a small, iron-rich terrestrial planet with no atmosphere. Most of the planet's surface is covered by a desert, with no water present at all. This, coupled with the extreme length of a local sidereal day, results in a world where the side facing the system's star is boiling hot and the side facing away is freezing cold. In fact, the temperature of the planet's dayside is so high that the sands of the desert melt and form glass which then solidifies and cracks during the long night.[1]

Beneath the deserts lie valuable minerals. Gaval sports a single, large space station, known colloquially as "The Oven", from which miners are sent down in specialised shuttles to harvest.[1]

Gaval is believed to be much older than the other planets of the Armageddon system, with some theorising that Gaval was once part of another system. Gaval has one moon, but there is also a dense asteroid belt that orbits the Armageddon system's star at the same distance as Gaval, close enough to Gaval itself that Imperial authorities believe it may have resulted from the collision of two former moons.[1]
