Hive Death Mire

Hive Death Mire (also known simply as Death Mire[3]) is a large Hive located on the Imperial hive world of Armageddon.[1][2] It is located on the northeast coast of Armageddon Prime[1][2] where the Phlegethon River and River Insane meet the northwestern edge of the Equatorial Jungle.[3]

First War for Armageddon

During the First War for Armageddon, due to its position in Armageddon Prime, it was quickly overrun by the forces of Chaos as most of the defenders turned to the worship of the Chaos powers. The loyal defenders fled to the Equatorial Jungles and Armageddon Secundus where they made their stand. It was later liberated after Angron of the World Eaters was banished to the warp and the forces of Chaos fled the planet.[Needs Citation]

Second War for Armageddon

During the Second War for Armageddon, due to being in Armageddon Prime, it was very quickly overrun by the Orks. The defenders had little hope under the command of Von Strab and they were beaten back. Commissar Yarrick ordered and arranged shuttle runs up to Armageddon Prime. Even though this strengthened the defense, it was insufficient to save the Hive.[Needs Citation]

It was eventually liberated with the arrival of the Squats and combined with the Space Marines including the Space Wolves and Blood Angels.[Needs Citation]

Third War for Armageddon

During the Third War for Armageddon, the defenders of Hive Death Mire managed to hold the Orks at bay and prevented them from ever completely taking the Hive. Originally, they managed to prevent them from crossing the River Insane but thousands of Feral Orks swept in from the east and almost overran the Hive in one night. The Orks were kept under control by two companies of Storm Lords Space Marines. The Orks did, however, manage to take the docks, preventing any supplies from landing in the Hive. It was not until the Armageddon Ork Hunters were posted to the edges of the forests and after slaughtering thousands of Feral Orks were the docks able to be retaken by the Storm Lords. Three weeks after the beginning of the war, the weapons and supplies returned to Hive Death Mire.[4]

With new supplies, regiments of Mordian Iron Guard pushed back the Orks past the River Insane Tunnel towards the Phlegethon Bridge. Titans attacked from the Tempestor Victorum line across Death Ridge and swept the Orks from the tops. Titans of the Legio Tempestor attacked the Ork Roks while avoiding their returned fire. This was one of the precious few major successes of the War.[4]

Results[4]

The Orks appear to be losing this region, simply due to the Imperial control of the Mire Anchorage, allowing materials and supplies to flood back in to the area.[2][4]
