Fleet Admiral Horatio Bugler was a celebrated officer of the Imperial Navy.

History

Early in his career, the young Captain Bugler was assigned to command of the Falchion Escort Escapade, on its maiden voyage from the shipyards at Voss.[1a]

Though Bugler, his crew, and the Falchion class as a whole were untested in combat, they had considerable success in their first engagement over Adumbria in 938.M41.[1] The Escapade and its sister ship the Virago were the only Imperial vessels on station when the Ravagers armada of a dozen or more vessels emerged from the Warp. Though unable to stop the Chaos forces landing their troops, both vessels were able to slip into the null-fire zone to the aft of the Chaos ships, destroying two with torpedo volleys and a third with their weapons batteries, before the Chaos forces returned fire. Again, their superior speed and maneuverability allowed the Falchions to disengage without taking significant damage.[1a][1b]

Bugler would then go on to much greater fame and success. Inquisitor Amberley Vail noted the irony that at least two celebrated Imperial officers appeared, during the early phases of their careers, with her subject, Commissar Ciaphas Cain, though unlike the other, Jenit Sulla, Bugler had (mercifully) not yet decided to publish his memoirs.[1a]
