House Terryn are a Knight House of the Imperium.[1][14a] They are led by High King Tybalt.[1]
Overview
Hailing from the tranquil world of Voltoris, the Knights of House Terryn have earned countless battle honours over the ages. Their house’s storied history is replete with tales of valour, strength and glory in battles fought from one side of the galaxy to the other. But it is said that the tedium of their daily life at Furion Peak only encourages them to campaign so far away from their peaceful home planet. Some may jest at such a notion, yet there is undoubtedly a kernel of truth behind this – after all, House Terryn is famed almost as much for the laborious ceremonies they stringently adhere to as they are for the magnificent skills their Knights display in battle. The daily intonation known as the Thousand Canticles of War Long Awaited is one such ritual, and lasts nearly three hours.[1][23b]
Its Knights also serve in the Padah March, alliance of Knight Houses and Freeblade Knights.[17a]
History
The Scions of Terryn first entered history when they scoured their world of Voltoris of the many dangers and great beasts that plagued the planet. For the last three millennia of the Age of Strife, the Knights knew no war. This changed with the coming of the Imperium, but a deal was arranged wherein the Knights of Terryn would pledge themselves to the Great Crusade in exchange for the continued protection of Voltoris. The eagerness of House Terryn to serve upon the battlefield became well known during the Great Crusade, and few of its Scions would ever return home once they departed. By the start of the Horus Heresy, House Terryn operated some 300 Knight suits. This had increased from 200 due to their close ties with Lucius and the Legio Astorum.[22]
The peace of Voltoris made the population ill-prepared for the Horus Heresy. During the conflict, House Terryn stayed loyal to the Imperium and sent their Knights to fight the Chaos forces of the traitorous Warmaster.[11] They fought beside Legio Astorum in the Battle of Beta-Garmon.[15] Meanwhile, Voltoris was invaded by the forces of Horus. Some three-dozen Knights stationed on the world fought a desperate battle against the traitors, with the once idyllic Voltoris transformed into a scene of total war.[22]
It is known that at some time after the Horus Heresy, Voltoris and House Terryn were separated from the main Imperium. The formal reunification of Terryn and Imperium occurred in 239.M35.[13b]
In M41, House Terryn has come to blows with the T'au Empire on multiple occasions due to their homeworld Voltoris' proximity to the Eastern Fringe.[9][23b] These include the invasion of Voltoris and the Prefectia Campaign.[9] This has been compounded by the rising threat posed by the tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan.[23b]
In the Age of the Dark Imperium, the Knights of House Terryn have been forced to fight closer and closer to Voltoris; the world has suffered from both a Necron awakening and an attempted invasion by the Aeldari of Craftworld Alaitoc.[23b] Despite this, House Terryn has remained highly active, including contributing forces to such far-reaching conflicts as the Indomitus Crusade[19], the War of Beasts on Vigilus[18], the defence of the Charadon Sector[21] and the Fourth Tyrannic War.[27]

Heraldry
House Terryn's Knights are primarily blue - it is believed that this is in reference to the original colour of Voltoris' oceans[7a][23b] (although they are now green due to the reaction of the oceans' algae to Voltoris' twin suns).[23b]
The most prominent feature of House Terryn's crest is a white horsehead on a blue field, selected as the House's emblem by Maximilian Terryn circa M25.[14a]
The crest evolved over the years, with the current version created by Seuitonius Thucidies Terryn after he swore the House's allegiance to the Emperor.[23b]
Barons of House Terryn can be identified by a pair of white vertical stripes on their carapaces, while their Vassals feature a plain carapace.[13a]
A Knight who has slain a Titan-class foe in personal combat earns the right to decorate their Knight's weapon with alternating blue and red stripes, signifying honour to both House Terryn and the Imperium as a whole.[14f]
