Hrafnkel

Hrafnkel was a Gloriana Class Battleship and flagship of the Space Wolves fleet during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

Overview

The Hrafnkel was one of the largest Gloriana Class vessel alongside the Vengeful Spirit, Conqueror, and Iron Blood. The vessel had an enormous crew of mostly Thralls and Servitors. The ships namesake was the mythological Fenrisian King Hrafnkel, who turned his back on the old gods and instead looked to his sons for strength in battle.[2] The ship's interior was heavily reflective of the Space Wolves culture, with Fenrisian ornamentation and decorative stylings. Leman Russ himself had his own chambers aboard the vessel in a dark and gloomy throneroom known as the Wolfs Hall.[3a]

During the Heresy, the ship took part in the Burning of Prospero[1] and the Battle of the Alaxxes Nebula.[2] The Hrafnkel later engaged the Vengeful Spirit during the Battle of Trisolian where it was grievously damaged but managed to escape.[3]

Trivia

Hrafnkel gets its title from the 10th century Icelandic saga of the same name.
