Inferno! magazine was the first Black Library publication, running from 1997-2005 with 47 issues. It primarily published short stories and comics from the worlds of Warhammer 40,000, Necromunda & Warhammer Fantasy.

Inferno!

Beginning in 1997 with the creation of Black Library publishing, Inferno! magazine (originally to be called carnage)[1] was a bi-monthly publication providing fans of both Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 with world-building materials such as short stories, comics, illustrations and other background information like Data-slate entries, correspondence etc. Most notably, the fledgling Black Library openly used the magazine as a recruitment tool, accepting submissions of prose and artwork from readers who aspired to join the company.
Inferno! introduced new characters in the different game systems of the time (including Necromunda) and was the birthplace of fan-favourite entities such as: Imperial Guard regiments like Gaunt's Ghosts & the Last Chancers, numerous new Space Marine Chapters, the Necromundan Bounty Hunter Nathan Creed, and many more. The magazine was also the birthplace of comics in these settings, with the comic section being so popular that a dedicated comics magazine, Warhammer Monthly, was released in 1998.

Abruptly cancelled in 2005 after 47 issues, the Inferno! label would later be resurrected in 2018 with a new series of short story anthologies.[2]
