History

Spoiler!
This page contains spoilers for: Angel Exterminatus (Novel)

The spirit stones of thousands of dead Eldar kept Iydris safe from the colossal tidal forces of the black hole. The surface resembled a tomb world, dedicated to the memory of the long-dead Eldar who once lived there.[1]

A pair of Dark Eldar brothers, the Vohras, had a plan to steal the spirit stones from Iydris: Karuchi told Fulgrim the legend of the "Angel Exterminatus," a powerful Eldar weapon sealed at the heart of their empire, while Varuchi told the survivors of the Drop Site Massacre of Fulgrim's plan to take the weapon. Fulgrim took Perturabo and their Legions into the Star Maelstrom while the Salamanders, Iron Hands, and Raven Guard took the Sisypheum to disrupt their plan. The Vohra brothers guided both parties through the Webway to Iydris.[1]

On the surface of Iydris, the Emperor's Children smashed as many spirit stones as they could get their hands on, fighting each other over the grasps of sensation that each destroyed stone gave off. The Wraithguard and Wraithlords eventually awoke to attack the Iron Warriors and Emperor's Children, while two Revenant Titans fought the Legio Mortis Titans that accompanied the landing party.[1]

When Fulgrim ascended to daemonhood, the spirit stones shattered. Every defender shut down. Without their power protecting Iydris, the black hole started to claim the world. Perturabo had seen through Karuchi's deception and killed him and Varuchi escaped through the Webway back to Commorragh. The Emperor's Children had disappeared with their Primarch, Perturabo led the Iron Warriors out, and the loyalists escaped on Thunderhawks and Stormbirds. Iydris fell into the black hole and was torn apart.[1]
