Khattar was a Cardinal World of the Imperium that fell to Chaos.[1]

History

Khattar was a world pledged to the Ecclesiarchy.[1] However, its priesthood turned instead to the worship of the Gods of Chaos[1], pledging themselves to Slaanesh.[2]. They convinced a populace weary of their prayers to the Emperor going unanswered to rise up in revolt.[1]

Their rebellion was far-reaching, with the Kattar PDF and multiple Imperial Guard Regiments stationed across nearby systems pledging their support for the now-heretical priests. Inquisitor Apollyon set out to contain the planet's heresy, initiating a naval blockade of Khattar. However, he lacked the forces to take to the planet's surface and expunge the rebellion directly. He eventually called for aid from the Celestial Lions Chapter.[1] Five companies of Space Marines led by Captain Saul deployed to the surface of Khattar.[2]

The might of the Space Marines ensured that the rebellion was crushed in short order, eliminating any armed resistance. As the Space Marines prepared to depart Khattar and return to their homeworld, however, Inquisitor Apollyon ordered an orbital bombardment, wiping out the entirety of Khattar's population. Apollyon claimed that the heresy on Khattar ran so deeply that the planet and its people were corrupted beyond recovery. The Celestial Lions denounced Apollyon's actions, which would later lead to dire consequences for the Chapter, for the Inquisition do not suffer challenges to their authority lightly.[1][2]
