A Krootox is a large beast used in Tau or Kroot mercenary forces. They are a dead-end evolutionary path and as such cannot benefit from Signature Evolutionary Adaptations, unlike most of the rest of the Kroot forces.

The squad is made of at least 10 Kroot and 3 Krootox and 1 Shaper but can be increased to 20 Kroot and 5 Krootox. The Krootox carries a single Kroot gun that is aimed and fired by a single Kroot (but is too unwieldy for a normal Kroot to hold), and the Kroot are armed with Kroot rifles and the Shaper has access to the Kroot Armoury.

Kroot Herders lead the Krootox into battle, guiding them towards the enemy before they unleash their deadly firepower. The larger the group the greater the heavy fire power that can be brough to bare. Without their leaders however, Krootox become harmless creatures and wander off the battlefield.

As well as having formidable ranged weaponry, they are also deadly in close combat. Many enemies refuse to assault a Krootox because of its amazing strength and toughness, although a creature of this size is hard to give armour and relies on a thick carapace for the most basic defence.
