Mag-trains[1], which are also known as Mag-trans[2] and Maglevs,[5a] are mile-long[1] magnetic Imperial vehicles that travel on fixed rail routes.[2][5a]

Description

Mag-trains are used by the Imperium to transport people, vehicles[3] or resources across a world's surface.[1] They are also used for the same purpose within Imperial spaceships.[4] The vehicles are composed of a leading drive cabin and then the many carriages that are connected to it and each other[5a], through the use of couplings. The drive cabins contain the Mag-trains' control panels, which are a tangle of levers, wheels and intricately carved dials. When their Machine Spirits are roused[5b], the vehicles' magnetic technology causes their grooved suspensor plates to suspend the Mag-trains an inch above their railing. The Mag-trains' propulsion drives then push them forward at incredible speeds on their routes.[5a] In fact, should a carriage be separated from a moving Mag-train, it will likely be hours or even days, before enough friction finally causes the carriage to stop.[5b]
