Malodrax is a novel in the Space Marine Battles novel series by Ben Counter. It was published in November 2013.

Cover Description

Held prisoner for years at the hands of the Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marines, Captain Darnath Lysander returns to the world of Malodrax with the Imperial Fists Chapter at his shoulder to exact revenge on his one-time captors. What bargains did he make to escape the world that had become his gaol and to what lengths will he go to keep those pacts veiled from his battle brothers? The tale of Captain Lysander's imprisonment, escape and triumphant return as you've never seen it before. Delve into the defining moments of the Imperial Fists' greatest hero.

Synopsis

Malodrax is actually three interwoven narratives: the story of the Imperial Fists strike force's return to Malodrax and their assault on Warsmith Kraegon Thul's fortress of Kulgarde; the story of Darnath Lysander's capture, imprisonment on Malodrax, and eventual escape; and the early expedition to Malodrax by Inquisitor Corvin Golrukhan, whose written account Lysander stumbled across during his escape.

After an absence of a thousand years, Lysander has returned to the Imperial Fists. Every test the chapter can subject him to has pronounced him free of taint, but Chapter Master Pugh has decreed that one last test must be passed before Lysander can be reinstated to his post as First Captain: to lead a strike force back to Malodrax, the daemon world where he was imprisoned, and raze the Iron Warriors stronghold there. Succeed, and Lysander will be welcomed back to the chapter, Pugh says; fail, and he will die.
